This record was engineered by Joe Meek and is quite a rare find.

Gerard Calvi - Sur La Plage (On The Beach) / Vacances (Holiday Time)
Interesting to note that Benny Hill chose Sur la Plage as one of his Desert Island Discs in 1959.
It has a comedic edge to it with male & female sighs during the record which did nothing but ruin an otherwise pleasant tune.

Al Morgan - Always / Memories
London Cat # 880 was not issued in the UK so this is a mystery entry. If we could have some scans from contributor that might help.

The Platters - The Great Pretender / Only You (And You Alone)
The vinyl 78s were designed for standard 78 playing so no change of stylus was needed. You had the best of both worlds - loud 78 format and unlike the shellac, a non-scratchy surface.
Your 45/33 stylus would be probably be wrecked by using in a 78 groove.

Soloist And Members Of The Chorus And State Opera Orchestra - Lohengrin Part V / Lohengrin Part VI
I think you will find that this 12" is a German issue as there are others with this catalogue No. sequence to confirm this.

Kaleidoscope - Faintly Blowing
On a Friday in the late 70s I walked into a record shop in Aldershot which was closing down the following day. There were just a dozen or so LPs left in the racks. Unknown to me was Faintly Blowing so I bought it for 25p. When I played it I was stunned that such a record could be so unknown and unwanted - why else would it be still there when almost all others had gone?

It was a gem of a find.

I still have it - mint and with no watermark!

Lonnie Donegan With His Skiffle Group - Lonnie Donegan Showcase
Since these are 1956 recordings they can't be in real stereo so goodness knows how much these tracks have been ruined by "artificial" stereo.

The Super-Sonics - New Guitar Boogie Shuffle / Sheik Of Araby
This 78 was issued on UK London as Supersonics. It is guitarist Billy Mure who went on to record many records in the 50s using the word Super-sonic to describe his dynamic playing style which was brilliant and certainly a rival to Les Paul with his inventiveness.

He is fairly easy to research.

Thank goodness the Beatles were just around the corner which effectively scuppered the making of such awful records as this. I don't know what Norman Newell was thinking of...

José Motos - Viva Flamenco!
This was Motos' second LP recorded in the UK. The first "Introducing JM" was issued on Top Rank and engineered by Joe Meek, supervised by Denis Preston in 1959.

His flamenco playing is acknowledged as some of the best you can hear - a touch of genius. His output was small as he died very young in his 40s - I don't know when but it's likely to have been in the 60s.

Diana Dors - Swingin' Dors
A pity but this LP was issued in mono despite the fact it was recorded in true stereo at Pye studios and engineered by Joe Meek assisted by Adrian Kerridge.
