Neil Forbes 15th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Light Orchestra - ELO's Greatest Hits | Looks like this one should also be filed in the "submarine" list as it keeps "resurfacing" every so often(ha-ha).

Neil Forbes 15th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Hit Laden | For someone not such a fan of K-Tel, you seem to have quite a few of their issues in your "sammlung"(collection), Darktownjunkie, Have you experienced any problems with this LP, or the other which you posted?
Neil Forbes 15th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul McCartney - All The Best! | Okay, this is something I didn't know about. Apart from the two LPs, we have 9(count 'em) singles(though not original pairings, I note). And these are part of the set, am I right to assume this? What do you make of this one, RC?
Neil Forbes 14th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Dynamite | Yes, Darktownjunkie, I can see you're not best pleased with K-Tel's German issues. I will admit that one or two tracks on my copy of "Good Morning America" do skip, but I put that down to the LP being previously owned. Someone who's migrated to Australia from Germany, brought this album with him/her, decided he/she no longer wants it and sells it to a second-hand book & record store owner, then, some time later, along comes little me, I see the LP and buy it because there are tracks on the LP that I want. Sorry for not writing in German here, but I've seen another of your posts and know you understand English. Another of your countrymen also posts here on occasion, Hello Fixbutte! Viel Grusse! Look forward to hearing from you gain soon. Tschuss!

Neil Forbes 14th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul McCartney - All The Best! | Actually, in the case of Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits, the reverse is the case. There are MORE tracks on the CD than on the vinyl LP. I'd come across the LP and there were some songs missing that are on the FMGH compact disc, but again, same cover artwork and title used in both formats when technically, one or the other, by dint of having fewer or more tracks than the other, is a different album and warrants different title and artwork.
Neil Forbes 14th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumDobie Gray - Drift Away | The title cut was a particular favourite with me. I have the single(on a British EMI-issued MCA label). The US licensees for the London label could've perhaps started using the British Decca trademark after a couple of years had passed since this LP.
Neil Forbes 14th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul McCartney - All The Best! | RC. I've seen this on CD and not all the tracks from the LP are on the CD(it was a single disc, as I recall). Better to hunt down the vinyl LP(2 records) and get the "whole" album. I bought this on cassette some years ago and, from that cassette pack(2 cassettes) and transferred the contents to 2 CDs as the total playing time well exceeds the capacity of a 700megabyte CD-R(80 minutes) disc. I really don't know what EMI was thinking to issue a single CD with missing content and use the same title and artwork as for the LP. The CD is, technically, a different album altogether and thus should've had a different title and artwork.

Neil Forbes 14th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Hitparade | Schlechte Qualität? I think I should translate this for Non-German speakers, okay? Here goes...
Bad quality? Who presses the LPs for K-Tel in Germany? I have a record from K-Tel Germany titled "Good Morning America" The quality on that LP suits me okay! Darktownjunkie, you've bought a used LP and the first owner didn't treat it very well. Perhaps when the record was bought new, the quality would've been "pristine".
Darktownjunkie's comments(translated): K-Tel stands for shortened songs and very bad quality! The smallest scratches on the LP and it is defective. Mostly the first and second songs are skipped over.(hope I've translated that last sentence correctly).

Neil Forbes 14th Mar 2015 | | 78 RPMArturo Toscanini - Overture To Opera "Carlos Bruegnon" / Stormy Weather | I just tried to post a remark on this but my internet connection is giving me grief. I learned though watching a documentary on Nat "King" Cole that one of his earliest recordings appeared on this special US forces label. These were only available to those serving in the defence forces listed on the label, thus weren't available to the general public. Is it safe to assume the material appearing on this label was properly licenced from the pre-existing labels(copyright owners)?

Neil Forbes 11th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Trashmen - Surfin' Bird | I haven't seen the clip, RC. Was it produced on the "cheep"?(ha-ha)
Neil Forbes 11th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumBadfinger - Straight Up | If I'm buying a second-hand LP(and they'll all be second-hand in Australia, thanks to the obscenity of abolishing vinyl production in the 1990s) then I won't want to fork out anything over five bucks for it, regardless of title and regardless of how good the condition is.
Neil Forbes 11th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Trashmen - Surfin' Bird | RC, you've picked it straight away BUT you forgot the "oom" in Papa Oom Mow Mow"
....And another Maxwell Smart Moment, folks!
Neil Forbes 11th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumBadfinger - Straight Up | RC, no album is ever worth $80. That price is far too steep for a second-hand LP, even if it was in mint condition(spearmint, peppermint - ha-ha).
Neil Forbes 11th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumRicky Segall And The Segalls - Ricky Segall And The Segalls | So, four years old! He looks older, perhaps like a 10-year-old boy. Well this puts him at 46 years old today! Happy birthday, Ricky(allowing for differences in the international time zones)! Of course this album does have that "submarine" quality to it, it keeps "resurfacing" in the random records images.
Neil Forbes 11th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumMartha Reeves And The Vandellas - Black Magic | Motown never bothered to tell Martha Reeves when they were moving.....! That was a bit rude!
Neil Forbes 10th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Trashmen - Surfin' Bird | A group called The Rivingtons(I believe) recorded "The Bird's The Word", which The Trashmen then turned into "Surfin' Bird".
Neil Forbes 10th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 24 Country & Western Greats Vol. 6 | RC: "The mind bender album is simply black and white"
A bit of a shame in this age of colour TV(ha-ha).
Neil Forbes 10th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Trashmen - Surfin' Bird | And of course this wasn't an expensive LP! Oh no, it was sold very cheep-ly(ha-ha)!
Neil Forbes 10th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 24 Country & Western Greats Vol. 6 | Almost there RC, but not quite! the stylised K in the circle is at the top of the label but the trademarked name K-Tel is smaller and superimposed in the smaller section of the stylised circle K. That stylised circle K is always white, even when the label body is of a light colour(sort-of yellowish on "Pin Ball Rock"[NA-484]). The copyright warning runs around the top edge with "Limited Collectors' Edition" at the bottom edge. Side(1 or 2), catalogue and matrix numbers grouped at right of spindle hole. LP title and side contents, including composer credits(and, in some cases, publishing credits) grouped below the spindle hole. That fairly sums up the Aussie K-Tel label!
Neil Forbes 10th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumMartha Reeves And The Vandellas - Black Magic | It's good to see Motown was still using their original Detroit "Hitsville" studios in 1972, even after establishing their MoWest studios in Hollywood in 1971.
Neil Forbes 10th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Trashmen - Surfin' Bird | ...Well, everybody knows that "the bird's the word!"(ha-ha)
Neil Forbes 8th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumGene Pitney - The Big Sixteen | Sorry, RC but this particular issue was dated some time after mid-1973. The catalogue prefix for ALL Festival LP issues was reduced to the simple "L" prefix followed by a five-digit number about mid-73. Prior to this an Interfusion LP would've had an ITFL prefix(from mid-1972 to mid-1973, and before that, an SITFL prefix with a 9 added ahead of the number from when Stereo LPs were first issued(and when the Interfusion label first appeared, 1970 or so).
So two typical Festival numbers prior to this(and these are actual numbers) would be SFL-934426(Jamie Redfern's When You Wish Upon A Star) and FL-34671(Jamie Redfern's Sitting On Top Of The World) issued in 1971 and 1972 respectively. This Gene Pitney LP, if it had been issued in 1972 would've been either ITFL-34,582(for Interfusion) or ML-34,582(for Musicore). The simple fact that the number is simply L-34,582 puts the manufacture and issue of this LP sometime AFTER mid-1973.
Neil Forbes 8th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumGene Pitney - The Big Sixteen | I know the songs, RC, don't need to hear them, got them stored as MP3 files anyway. But they're not in this album which was first issued a full decade ahead of Blue Angel. This copy I've put up is a mid-1973 or later reissue(I'm not sure of the year this was issued, that's why I left the year blank).
Neil Forbes 8th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumGene Pitney - The Big Sixteen | Well, you know now, RC. Go out and grab a few of his albums(or a few more if you've already got one or two) and sample his wares! He really was a great performer. He had quite a few more hits than his Australian chart history would indicate, mainly in Britain and Europe where he was more appreciated than in his home market of the USA. His run of hits in Australia stopped in 1966 but picked up again(briefly) in 1974/75 with Blue Angel and Trans-Canada Highway but we made up for lost time by filling the venues where he performed to capacity.
GENE PITNEY - A truly great performer, sorely missed!
Neil Forbes 8th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumGene Pitney - The Big Sixteen | Yeah, RC! Ya did! Now I'm feeling old(oooh my achin' bones!) Ha-ha.
Neil Forbes 8th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumGene Pitney - The Big Sixteen | Gene Pitney goes back a lot further than that, RC, but sadly he's no longer with us. I saw him perform 'live' at Newcastle's Civic Theatre once in 1974, just a short time after "Blue Angel" came out, then probably 4 or 5 times more at the Newcastle Worker's Club, before and after the 1989 earthquake forced the complete rebuild during 1990. He always performed to packed auditoria(plural of auditorium).
Neil Forbes 8th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumDollar - The Dollar Album | Did this album cost 100 cents or was this duo just trying to "buck" the system?(ha-ha)
Neil Forbes 8th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumGene Pitney - The Big Sixteen | Oh RC, really! You're not putting your trust in that spell-check are you?
Neil Forbes 8th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl Album[no artist listed] - Course In Radio Announcing | I'll continue this with you through a PM, RC. Okay?

Neil Forbes 8th Mar 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumGene Pitney - The Big Sixteen | What was written on that "hot paper", RC?
