Fats Domino - Detroit City Blues / The Fat Man
If Detroit City Blues has matrix #IM-132, and The Fat Man has matrix #IM-133, logically this makes The Fat Man, the B-side of the disc.

Well, MM, my YT player decided to work properly and I listened to both tracks, Better Side Of Life, somewhat slow in tempo, Really Wanted You a bit more up-tempo and both a bit McCartney-ish in style but not too similar to ol' Paul. But I'm afraid they don't seem to really grab my attention. Not too bad, though!

Oh, dear, MM! There are some holes in your theory there, I'm afraid. Firstly, I don't have Wi-Fi, Secondly, I live in a 1-bedroom housing commission flat, and thirdly we ain't got a pool(awwww, gee!).

Anne Murray - Greatest Hits
Well, here it is at last, Anne Murray - Greatest Hits, the complete 20-track album. This should answer a couple of Record Collector's questions about the label.
This LP launched EMI's PLAY-1000 series in 1980 across all EMI's labels, just so happened the first two or three were on Capitol.

RC: "Ahhh yes he played the partridge family's next door neighbour" Trust you to "chime in" with something like that, RC!(chime in - Bell Records: get it? ha-ha)

Hi, Vinylsol, It's more than likely they meant to print Russell but the two lower-case 'L's went missing. But they did make a mistake re: Love Is Strange as the composers are indeed Baker and Smith, not Baker and South.

Hi, MM! Tried playing YT clip of Better Side... keeps freezing at 29 seconds, mainly because my modem is wireless and is getting a weak signal.

This kid couldn't have been more than 10 years old at the time he did this. Surely he didn't REALLY write these songs himself, did he? This LP looks typically like it's cashing in on the "cute singing child" syndrome.

The cover is from the original Liberty issue but with a slight modification, the mono number was deleted but the stereo number shows as SLYL-932,653. This is either from mid-to-late 1973 or early 1974. I've gone with 1973 as a default(better safe than sorry). If you compare the rear sleeve of this with the US Dolton 1962 issue, very different indeed.

I'll have to upload my re-issue of this. Curiously the cover is an earlier print showing the Liberty trademark and the catalogue, SLYL-932,653 but the label is United Artists and the catalogue on the label is L-32,653, meaning the re-issue dates to some time from mid-1973 onwards. You'll see when I upload the cover and labels.

Johnny Cash - The Best Of Johnny Cash
RC's remark: "Some of these songs appear on the essential Johnny Cash on CD part of the essential series" That's not surprising RC, All these tracks will find themselves "recycled" onto any number of compilations at one time or another.

Hi, MM....Now you mention it, Ol' Rhodesy is a bit McCartney-ish, and maybe those home-made masters could've done with a bit of polishing at Lou Adler's Dunhill studios(did Adler still own Dunhill in '71?) to sharpen them up a bit, but that single I have sounds fine(albeit a bit crackly - I bought it second-hand).

Here it is. And I had to reconnect to the net to get the images uploaded(just as I made my first attempt to upload the front cover, my connection dropped out - BUGGER!) But I got there in the end. This album, though under a different title, is the same as Dimension Dolls, as shown elsewhere. Moderator, if you wish, you can link the two albums.

I have the German Oldies But Goldies issue ready for uploading, but before I do, I noticed a discrepancy between the issue year on the cover and the labels. The cover gives 1974 as the issue year but the labels say 1973. I'll go for the default position and take what's on the label as the correct date. And Yankeedisc, It is more than likely yours is in "processed"(fake or synthetic) stereo. As that is the effect on this version. That said, I'm about to upload.

Just don't make a "spectacle" of yourself, RC!(Ha-ha). I was about to make this comment earlier but clicking on the comment sent my internet search into a tizzie. Kept getting "This Page Could Not Be Found" Yahoo error handler! If I've managed to keep myself from pulling out all my hair in frustration, then I can go and join what's left of Smokey Robinson's former group!

Valid point, Roger! Mary Wells was a solo artist and Gladys Knight's "Pips" were a male trio, not befitting the title at all. Where were the Velvelettes? They should've been on this set in place of Wells and Knight & co.

What? And they didn't include "Leben Mit Dir"(Live With You) in a compilation made for Germany? Das ist ganz verrückt!

Sorry - My mistake! Too late I noticed the 1978 issue year, a good 7 years
or so before he recorded the song I mentioned.

Actually, RC, it isn't a follow-up to any of her Motown stuff because she'd left Motown and signed with 20th Century Fox when she recorded this album. And by the time this LP was issued, EMI would've already launched the Tamla/Motown label for the British, Euro and Australia/NZ markets.

Actually, Yankeedisc, if the SSL prefix was used it might've been to refer to the two syllables of the label name "Stateside with theL at the end to denote LP, not necessarily stereo.

"One Day In Your Life" had two British issues! The copy I have is on the black Tamla/Motown label and shows 1975 as its publishing/issue date. First issue number was TMG-946. Then in 1981, reissued with a catalogue number thirty places along from the first, that number being TMG-976. First time out in 1975, probably too soon to have any impact, second time out....WHACK! Big Hit!

The Beatles - 20 Greatest Hits
It most certainly did, Ollie(channeling Stan Laurel, there - ha-ha), It was a three-tracker with "I Feel Fine" occupying Side 1 on its own and "Love Me Do" was first cut on Side 2(an't remember the second one, though. It's somewhere in my collection, I'll stumble across it by chance sometime in the future). A quick look at one of the labels shows the two tracks I'd mentioned were also on the LP, so what were EMI thinking of to put the tracks on an EP as well? Bit silly to repeat the tracks in two formats, I reckon!

I thought Fixbutte might've chimed in by now on this one, I'd like to find out what year this album was issued as that detail has been - sadly - left off the label and cover.
