Thought I wasn't too far off the mark on my last post, RC! You've pretty-much confirmed what I said!

Apart from the "titled" tracks, there were two(or three) short untitled "grabs" of about roughly 50 seconds to a minute-and-a-half in length. I have this album on a commercially-issued cassette and thinking seriously about doing a new CD from it(if the cassette will "behave" itself and operate properly in the deck, that is). Just trying to remember where those untitled grabs go and whether to have them as separate tracks or merge them with a titled track.

Well, Explosive Hits '75 was a budget-price issue as well, even though it was(I think) issued on one of EMI's "flagship" labels(HMV or Columbia). I think those Explosive Hits LPs or their successors were moved over to the EMI or EMI-International label in 1976.
As for the price....$3.50 may seem cheap by today's standards, but even as a budget price, it was a lot of dough back then! And that's the funny thing, you'd walk into a second-hand record shop today and pick up a copy of Explosive Hits '75 and likely pay the same for it...$3.50!

RC, you're such a tease! Tasty Treats, I assume, is another Peppers album, right? But we never saw it here because neither EMI or any other company sought to licence it for Australian issue, full-price or budget-price... Am I getting warm? But this LP valued at 19 bucks! Whew! I don't think I paid any more than $3.50 when I bought it brand new from the Axis rack at a mixed business on Stockton(my old stamping ground) many moons ago!

Actually RC, This IS the USA organisation! Columbia Graphophone was established in the USA, then set up a branch in the UK. It's ironic but the UK branch became the new "headquarters" when the American parent company faltered and failed. It was then the turn of the now-British company to re-establish the Columbia name in the USA (did someone just mutter something about "coals to Newcastle"?) and the new American company had to "lease" the magic notes trademark from the British establishment. This they did for several years until the 45rpm era when the American arm, now a separate entity (history repeating itself) and operating a TV and radio network, had to come up with a new trademark, that's where the stylised "speaker on a stand" design came into the picture. Meanwhile, back in England... well, I've already covered that chapter!

I recall it being on that album! Interesting thing here, Track(Pepper Box) turns up on Explosive Hits '75, Taste Of Pepper.... LP issued on Axis in '74, original Stateside single - Recording First Published 1973!(I love the way Brit. labels used to show the issue year on them!).

My guess is, this is another album that EMI Australia thought would not mean much to Aussie record-buyers, so rather than issue the LP on a major label at full-price(they issued Pepper Box c/w Pinch Of Salt as a single on Stateside), they'd issue the album as an Axis budget release instead. I don't think EMI really cares much about sales figures for their budget labels,
They bung 'em together an' put 'em out... If'n they sell a copy or a thousand, sweet! If not, who gives a.....!(you fill in the blank!)

The actual album title appears on the rear of the cover, rather than the front(apart from on the labels). I was prompted to upload this after Record Collector made a passing ref...ref... re... Aaaaachoooo!(sorry, too much "pepper"!) reference to the album in recent posts. Thought I'd give you all a look at this "mysterious" album!

RC, I guess that makes these albums a "two-off"(ha-ha). But I hope you're watching your screen veeeeerrrrrryyyyy closely! Because I'm about to upload a certain LP. What is it? you might ask....well, it's a large black disc with a hole in the middle and kept in a cardboard sleeve... but that's not important right now! Keep watching!

Interesting the name at the bottom of this label. Under this name the company moved to England and became embedded there, while the US operation faltered and went belly-up. The British newly-independent company operated as rivals to, then in 1938 formed an alliance (merger) with The Gramophone Company, owners of the "Nipper"(HMV) trademark, to form Electric & Musical Industries Ltd. Prior to that merger, members of the British "Columbia" outfit went over to the USA to help re-establish the brand there, and that's how CBS eventually came about, first as a radio broadcaster, then as a record label (albeit losing use of the Magic Notes trademark after a while).

Axis's vanishing act, RC? I'd have thought closer to mid-1990s myself. But Popcorn wasn't a one-off, at least not here in Australia. It was followed by Ticker Tape....and then BWD vanished without a trace!

Emitt Rhodes - Mirror
Hi, MM! I had also never heard of Emitt Rhodes until I picked up this American ABC-Dunhill single of his called "Fresh As A Daisy" c/w "You Take The Dark Out Of The Night". What I've managed to find out about him is: he hails from Hawthorne, California(Beach Boys' home town), singer/songwriter/producer whose first LP(from which came the aforementioned single) was produced at home on home-built equipment(apparently) and regulations stated that to record for a major label, one had to use that label's studio(but ABC-Dunhill seemingly "turned a blind eye" to that rule and issued the album anyway). So that's what I was able to find out.

Ah, that's right, RC, you've been to Newcastle! NBN used only the instrumental portion of that "Fly, Robin, Fly" track, about 1976.

Pepper Box, by The Peppers? I recall TV station NBN-Newcastle using it as background to station ident. spots in 1975 or 1976, sometime around that era.(that's Newcastle in Australia, not Britain - just to avoid confusion).

I was curious and thought I'd ask. I already know about Ticker Tape as I'm the one who uploaded it. I just thought that, on the off-chance(or off the on-chance, ha-ha) there just might have been a third LP out there by this group, but kooks like that theory has slammed against a brick wall. So it appears I have the entire recorded output of Electric Coconut.(by the way, take a look at the Australian Ticker Tape front cover, then compare it to the British Go Moog front, see any similarities?)

Hate to say it but "duh!" Of course they're going to be different! The different K-Tel franchises around the world may use the same title, but the catalogue number and artwork, not to mention the contents are bound to be different in each market. Songs that are big hits in one market aren't going to mean much in another, so each franchise will insert tracks that are huge in their own country's market instead.

I kept myself logged in while I went to another website(Hunter TV) and watched some railway videos while waiting for things to pick up a bit on this site. Luckily, I was able to get straight in without getting that annoying "page not found" message this time around. But the question remains, are there any other LPs by Electric Coconut(even under their alternate spelling)?

Just a few minutes ago I had a devil of a job getting back onto this website. I hadn't logged out, but I was in the forums section, I clicked to "refresh" the page or to go to the forums lists, and instead ended up on a yahoo search page. Clicking on "Home"(house icon, top-right of screen) then star icon(favourites) went to my 45worlds and the search engine kept coming back: "page not found!" Took me(at a guess) about 5 tries to get back in, as you can see I finally succeeded! As foe Electric Coconut(or Electrik Cokernut), I wonder if there were any other LPs out there we're not aware of....Hmmmm!

....And just listened to a portion of Jungle Juice(the only original composition by Bill Wellings and Len Hunter on the album)... and yes, it still has that harsh edgy, distorted sound quality to it though Chirpy... didn't sound as bad here as it did on the LP.
