Neil Forbes 11th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Johnny Rivers - New Lovers And Old Friends	Seems no other nationalities of issues have as yet popped up for this one. Still, I'll keep w watch for any other versions.
Neil Forbes 11th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Various Artists - 20 Red Hot Hits	Seems all the rest of the tracks were just "padding" for Lane, Preston and Kamahl(why, people are so unkind!). Don Lane's an ex-pat Yank from New York who never made it big in his own country so came here instead. Mike Preston DID have a degree of success in England before migrating to Australia where he did TV and an occasional LP or single. Lane had recorded on HMV and a couple of other labels, did this song(A8) for Festival's Spin label, then turned up a year or so later on the South Australian Sweet Peach label with "City Boy, Country Born"/"We Were Lovers Then" in early 1971. Mike Preston's Dear Heart was also on Spin but I don't know if he was signed long-term to the label. Kamahl's Sounds Of Silence was his debut single and one of the last Philips issues with the label name in orange with the orange wedges out from the centre spindle on a black background. By 1970 Philips had adopted the blue Euro label design.

Neil Forbes 11th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Various Artists - 20 Original Hits Of The 70s	There are two tracks that don't belong in the set as they are both "Recording First Published 1969"(to borrow from pre-1965 45rpm issues), they are A1, Tracy(Cuff-Links) and A5 Mama Told Me(Three Dog Night). These tracks often appear in compilations like this and in Sixties compilations as well. Fair enough for Sixties but not for Seventies compilations.

I have two copies actually, and they're replacements for the one I bought way back then. Bought the first copy, on recording some tracks into MP3 a couple of the tracks "skipped", bought the second copy to get better-quality recordings that wouldn't skip.

Neil Forbes 11th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Various Artists - 20 Red Hot Hits	There are a couple of B-sides used here as well, A5 is the flip-side to This Girl Is A Woman Now(1969) and A3 is the flip-side to(I believe) Spinning Wheel(1969). Other 1969 tracks in the set are: A8 and A10, B6, B8 and B9(a harmless track - benign, get it?). Oh yes, not forgetting the two Mark Lindsay tracks, one of which is borderline, 1969/70.
Neil Forbes 11th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Various Artists - Old 'N' Golden Goodies	Have a full stereo version of Floyd Cramer's Last Date and used it to close out a session I used to present on PSFM, A friend I know from 2NUR, Newcastle also used the tune as his closing theme(Arthur Shepherd actually inspired my use of the tune). You're quite right, RC, good closing theme.

More like 19 as Mark Lindsay has two entries on this album, Miss America and Silver Bird. And there at A6 is that O.C. Smith track we mentioned in relation to his, "At Home With..." album.

Neil Forbes 10th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Various Artists - Hits 3	The contents list has been taken from the back cover or inside the gatefold. The label will be correct. I've stumbled across this with a Dutch issue on Arcade Crown in the "Remember The 70s" series, The cover listed a version of the Jim Reeves song, He'll Have To Go, done by Randy Newman(on the label it showed - and played Short People) Right artist - wrong song! Clue here! Dutch LPs, go by label, not by cover!
Neil Forbes 10th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Various Artists - Walt Disney's Mary Poppins Original Cast Soundtrack	I'm with you, bigmcstu, I'd be embarrassed to admit ownership of this one too. The worst of it is, that the composers of all the puerile drivel on this album are the same brothers who wrote Johnny Burnette's biggie, "You're 16(You're Beautiful And You're Mine)" in 1962, Richard and Robert Sherman. Horrible thought, indeed!
