Neil Forbes 4th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 20 Chartstoppers Vol.3 | I wouldn't mind finding the single of Morning Of The Earth! I feel a bit short-changed on learning the LP track had been edited down(boo-hoo, sob, sob, wwwwaaaagggghhhh!).
Neil Forbes 4th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Wacky Westerns | My head's exploding at the thought of how some of these would sound(lyric-wise). And where did the composer credits come from? They're not on the labels. If they've been taken from the rear cover, could you upload that cover, please, Trainman?
Neil Forbes 4th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 20 Chartstoppers Vol.3 | A7, it's a good track, too!
Neil Forbes 4th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 20 Chartstoppers Vol.3 | The label for Morning Of The Earth in the YT clip says 5.20(5 minutes, 20 seconds) the track actually clocks at 5.02(1 second of silence right at the end stretches it to 5.03 but the version at B9 on this LP clocks in at 3.27(and that's after I trimmed the waste while copying to MP3 file).(had to correct the track number - keyboard gremlins got me again!)
Neil Forbes 4th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 20 Chartstoppers Vol.3 | Well, R.C., for a start, she ain't "Our" Olivia! She NEVER recorded here! She spent SOME of her childhood here, she was in Newcastle for a very short time while her father was at the University. but her recording career started at PYE International, then moved to EMI about 1975, then she moved to America and recorded for MCA. SHE NEVER ONCE set foot in any Australian studio(except perhaps for a visit). As for A1 getting you singing, at least you don't have Tomjonesitis!
Neil Forbes 4th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 20 Chartstoppers Vol.3 | Sadly, the Olivia Neutron-Bomb .. er, Newton-John track jumps in a few places but I have that track on another LP that I can use as a substitute.
Neil Forbes 4th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 20 Chartstoppers Vol.3 | Hi, R.C.! Apollo 100's "Joy" would've been a far better track than that Kamahl(why? people are so unkind!) track, but then ANY track would be better!
Neil Forbes 4th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumJimmy Dean - Jimmy Dean's Greatest Hits | I've a Dr. Hook & Medicine show LP on this Harmony label, Perhaps I should take a close look at the bottom of its rear cover to see if the EMI credit's there as well. Cheers, Phil!
Neil Forbes 4th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 20 Chartstoppers Vol.3 | Sorry about the slight stain at bottom-left of rear cover. That's how it was when I got it. As I said in the notes, I bought this LP to get hold of Tr.B9(a very friendly track, benign - get it?). Barring Tr.B5, which I could've done without, the rest were just extra goodies.
Neil Forbes 4th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumJimmy Dean - Jimmy Dean's Greatest Hits | That one beats me too, Phil! I can see it printed at the bottom of the cover - "Marketed by EMI Retail Promotions" ....er...what...?
Neil Forbes 3rd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumPat Wilson - Bop Girl | Don't worry about spelling, R.C., you're a victim of those dreaded "keyboard Gremlins"(echo effect when they're mentioned).
Neil Forbes 3rd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumPat Wilson - Bop Girl | R.C., I already mentioned Daniel in the Bop Girl clip but your revelation that Pat was in the Eagle Rock clip is new to me. As I recall the Eagle Rock clip opened with a scene in a milk-bar.
Neil Forbes 3rd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumPat Wilson - Bop Girl | Remember the magazine "Go-Set"?(Australian participants to this site will certainly remember this). In 1971, Pat Wilson was editing the letters section under the heading "Mummy Cool", whilst Hubby Ross was having the big hit with Eagle Rock/Bom Bom(double-sided hit) on Sparmac SPR-008. Pat resigned her position in order to give birth to son, Daniel, who, at age 10, appeared in the video-clip for Bop Girl. No, Pat Wilson did not return to Go-Set after Daniel's birth, she became full-time mother. By the time she could've returned(Daniel aged 5 or 6) it was already too late, Go-Set had folded in 1975.

Neil Forbes 3rd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Dynamic Sound | R.C., it's likely K-Tel Australia would've used the English version, but both versions were popular, I think the Spanish A-side got the most airplay at one stage. The English B-side got some attention, but not a great lot. On the single, the Spanish version on Side A was in full stereo, whilst the English version on Side B was mixed back to mono - strange, that! Should've given both versions a full stereo mix.
Neil Forbes 3rd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Dynamic Sound | A6 - It's the Spanish Version - The English version has the Spanish title in parenthesis(brackets), and the crediting of Mike Hawker for English lyrics. This version only has J.C.(Juan Carlos) Calderon credited, with the English title bracketed. I know this as I have the single, issued on yellow-labelled RCA-Victor.
Neil Forbes 3rd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Dynamic Sound | A6, Would've thought they'd have used the English version perhaps, Touch The Wind - English translation penned by Mike Hawker.

Neil Forbes 3rd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - A Collection Of 16 Original Big Hits Vol. 11 | They were pretty clever back in 1967, considering the equipment they were working with. This track, I think, was British Motown Chartbusters Vol.2.
Neil Forbes 3rd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - A Collection Of 16 Original Big Hits Vol. 11 | I remember seeing one of these volumes carrying "St.Louis" by The Easybeats(licenced from the Australian arm of Polydor) issued as a single on Rare Earth as R-5009 in 1969. Music publishing handled by Robbins Music. There was no reference to ASCAP or BMI on the label of the single, but the track was included in one of these volumes.
Neil Forbes 3rd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - A Collection Of 16 Original Big Hits Vol. 10 | Hi, R.C. Motown Giants I've had for yonks on cassette(pre-Dolby) Diana Ross & Supremes Plus, from memory that LP launched the "Gold Edge" series(I also have an LP copy). That one is notable for including "Hey Harmonica Man" by Stevie Wonder, and "Don't Let The Jones Get You Down" by The Temptations among its tracks, and could be actually about 1970 issue. One other in my lot is That Motown Sound which carries one of my all-time favourites, "A Little Bit For Sandy" by Paul Petersen(spelt incorrectly on the sleeve as Peterson). It was for that track that I bought the album! Perhaps we could "compare notes" in the PMs.

Neil Forbes 3rd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - A Collection Of 16 Original Big Hits Vol. 10 | What are the titles of your three albums, R.C.? If you don't mind my asking...
Neil Forbes 3rd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - The Feel Of Neil Diamond | Hi, Vidman45! As I said, I trawled through the discography on ND on 45Cat. and saw all these issue dates for 45s that were post-1966. So what you're saying is: the tracks were intended for this album primarily, then, at Bert Berns'(owner of Bang) discretion, issued on singles over a period of two or three years thereafter.(of course, Bert Berns, who was a dab hand at songwriting himself, penning songs as Bert Berns or Bert Russell, died in 1968, leaving Bang staff to keep the label going). Diamond would go on to make several more singles for Bang but these would turn up mainly on compilation albums more-so than be dedicated to any specific intentionally-made album by Neil Diamond.
Neil Forbes 3rd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - A Collection Of 16 Original Big Hits Vol. 10 | I'm thinking these albums, issued by Motown, across all the company's labels at the time, may have prompted EMI to start their own compilation series, giving birth in 1967 to the Chartbusters volumes. The first two being called "British Motown Chartbusters" but from Volume 3 onwards became simply "Motown Chartbusters". I know EMI Australia didn't take ALL the volumes, Some were "jiggled" with, to create the "Motown Giants" and "It's Summer" compilations(as examples) and I'm not entirely sure EMI's Euro divisions issued the Chartbusters series, though some of the Brit. LPs had the Euro catalogue system numbers on them.
Neil Forbes 3rd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - The Feel Of Neil Diamond | R.C., how goes it? Neil Diamond's Bang label recordings have been repackaged and reconfigured into that many album compilations, by EMI on vinyl, and now by Sony on CD that it would do anyone's head in trying to keep up with them all(pass me another aspirin, please, my head's starting to ache!).
Neil Forbes 3rd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - The Feel Of Neil Diamond | One last mention on this one, I think the release year may be out by two years. I was just on 45Cat. and checking Neil Diamond's discography and a couple of these came up as 1968 single issues. New Orleans/Hanky-Panky is shown as Bang B-554, issued January, 1968. There's one example. I think this album is more a compilation of his hits from 1966 to 1968, including some A- and B-sides. But I couldn't find a 45rpm number for Monday, Monday.
Neil Forbes 2nd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 20 Chartstoppers Vol.2 | Just the facts, man, just the facts! Think we might figure it out by "Friday", Joe... er R.C.?
It's getting late, think I'll log out for today. Catch you all later!
Neil Forbes 2nd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - The Feel Of Neil Diamond | Ooh you are awful... but I like you(oops! channeling Dick Emery there!) but that smiley emoticon.... MC...AY? Cheeky, MM!
Neil Forbes 2nd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - The Feel Of Neil Diamond | MM, saw your last post. You've summed it up well. Cheers!
Neil Forbes 2nd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - The Feel Of Neil Diamond | R.C.: "And CBS here in Australia also". Yes, but from 1973 onward(Jonathan Livingston Seagull was his first CBS LP in this market, as it was elsewhere). In Britain from 1966 to 1969, he wasn't actually WITH the British arm of CBS, CBS merely licenced his Bang label issues for that market. From late '68, for argument's sake, 1969, he was on MCA's Uni label with Tom Catalano producing, then Catalano followed Diamond to CBS/Columbia in 1973 in the USA, resulting in him appearing on CBS in other markets as well. A potted history(not a Pottered history because my name ain't Harry!)
Neil Forbes 2nd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Pop Hits | Yeah, R.C., B3 didn't quite "strike" it big here, you might say(...I know... another paper joke - tearable![terrible - get it?]) I really am a shocker, ain't I? - Don't answer that!
Neil Forbes 2nd Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - The Feel Of Neil Diamond | Ooooohhh you're such a stirrer, MM! Thing is, these tracks predate Neil Diamond's time at MCA, the recordings here(and all the rest of his work at Bang, where he was produced by Jeff Barry & Ellie Greenwich) has ended up with Sony. Interesting thing... From about 1964 to 196?(don't know exactly when), Gene Pitney appeared on EMI/Stateside in your neck of the woods, MM, but down here in Aussie, he was on CBS, but with Neil Diamond from 1966 to 1969, it was the reverse. Diamond was on EMI/Stateside in Australia but appeared on CBS in Britain, bit of trivia for you.
