Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny And The Hurricanes - Stormsville | No worries Bluesman!, Just using the close-up facility in this website. Brilliant stuff, this!

Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny And The Hurricanes - Stormsville | Gee that was quick, no sooner had I mentioned the dates than it was changed. Lightning-fast! Blink and you miss it!
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny And The Hurricanes - Stormsville | I think you're a year out. Look close at the Side A label(click for close-up) you'll see Recording First Published 1959 but below that you'll also see Recording First Published 1960. That tells me this is a 1960 issue. The same Recording First Published... dates are also on Side B.

Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumTommy Seebach - Wheels | I guess we could "bang on" about this one for a while, ay?
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumTommy Seebach - Wheels | The Drum series was merely like EMI's old Encore series. Take a look at the "Hit Wave LP, you'll see the Encore series at the top-left of the cover, and if I'd used the original cover of Another Hit Wave, you'd have seen the Encore Series logo at bottom-left. As it was I used a late-1969 pressing and the logo was deleted off the cover. Instead, EMI put a series number under the catalogue number. As to the Drum series and each LP having its own number within that series, aside from its regular number, The Drum series was pretty-much "beaten out"(deliberate pun) by the end of the 1970s.

Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Power House | R.C. said: "Brass music doesn't seem to dig teens of that time haha." Guess they just got brassed off with it, ay?
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Songs And Pictures Of The Fabulous Beatles / Introducing The Beatles | With a nod to Make1968, have added missing composer credits, as gleaned from the labels of this entry. And R.C., It could be that album, but knowing how Americans like to second-guess the Brits and change a British LP's contents, I'm not so sure.
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Songs And Pictures Of The Fabulous Beatles / Introducing The Beatles | It looks legitimate to me. Perhaps when VJ issued the stereo version they thought it appropriate to revamp the front cover for both stereo and mono versions. Labels on bootlegs look like they're photocopied from the original and applied to the disc in a slap-dash fashion. The labels here are professionally finished.
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Power House | R.C., quite correct! Issued as Atlantic HS-103, debuted 29th January, 1976(issued late 1975) at 36, peaked at 36, spent just two weeks and was gone, just like that....Poof! In a cloud of smoke! In other words, a DUD! My chart info, by the way, comes from "The Book"(Edition #7) by Steve Scanes and Jim Barnes, and covers the NSW charts, 1956 to 2005.
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumCliff Richard - The Greatest | The LP is a 1970s re-issue. The most likely original issue date would be the year of the newest of the tracks contained, or roughly a year after. The newest track in this set that I can find is "I'm The Lonely One" which was issued in 1964 as DB-7203 and coupled with "Watch What You Do With My Baby", so I'd likely put the original issue date as around 1964 to 1965 and this re-issue to date around 1970 to no later than 1973. I should point out the 45rpm catalogue number is British as that's the origin of my copy of that particular single.
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Another Hit Wave | The flaps where the two sides were glued together, turned inward made for a much neater appearance. But they were using a far better glue back then, the sleeves haven't come apart, unlike some latter LP covers.
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Another Hit Wave | All bar track 7 on Side A, plus tracks 2, 3, 4 and 5 on Side B I've converted to MP3 and stored in a folder on an external hard-drive - All Oldies(60s) sub-file 1967. I've got to get cracking and convert the remaining tracks of this and several more of "Hit Wave" to make a CD of them.
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Another Hit Wave | Actually, no, R.C. Thanks to the link you provided, I saw that Hit Wave Three's label had the same design, only in a deep navy blue colour. It would be the early 1970s when we first saw the label design with the lines out from the trade mark(in whatever colour).
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Hit Wave | Just watched Little Pattie's clip.... She was Young Talent Time before Young Talent Time ever existed! I'LL EAT MY HAT was clearly one of her best. Wish they'd given her this calibre of song from the start of her career instead of that "stompie-wompie(ugh)" crap! I only have to think of that song, let alone hear it and it's like fingers down a blackboard. CRINGE-O-RAMA! Sorry Pattie but have done far better than that first one and I'll Eat My Hat proves it.
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Another Hit Wave | Yes, they switched from HMV to Columbia for this and Hit Wave Vol.3. Volume 3's label was a deep navy blue colour and the back cover showed Hit Wave and Another Hit Wave, both still in the catalogues at the time. A glance at the track list for Vol.3 suggest it was issued later in 1968, and the front cover showed a surfer. Thanks for the link, R.C. Now all that needs doing is to get that volume onto 45worlds and we'll have the complete set! In the meantime, I may have to chase 45s of some of these tracks if I'm going to commit this album to CD, likewise with Hit Wave.
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Another Hit Wave | Someone at EMI goofed here! This is a mono LP but the word Stereo inadvertently appeared on the A-side label only. I made a correction only to show how it should've looked. The LP was first issued in 1968 and that issue had those oh-so-grotesque publishing company "stamps" printed on the labels. The label design here is the same as the initial issue, but because of the absence of those publishing company "stamps", I think this may be a late-1969 reprint of the album. Though I'll stick with 1968 as its issue date.
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Hit Wave | It's a bit of a trick, actually. A single is issued and no-one quite knows of its existence until the record company's publicity department's wheels begin to spin. Then it's down to how much publicity the record gets, and if the radio stations pick it up and start playing it, and how often it's played, they're some of the factors that determine if the record will succeed or flop, and of course, if the public take to it or reject it.
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Hit Wave | R.C. said: "only in mono of course it would be", Oh, but of course!
I'm taking a break to catch some news, see you in an hour or so!
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Hit Wave | I have the Little Pattie, Bev Harrell and other tracks tucked away in MP3 files, lifted(mostly) from this LP and its follow-up. though the I'll Eat My Hat(burp!) track came off an EP of hers under that title. Hey Pattie, don't forget the tomato sauce!
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Hit Wave | That should put the chart debut for Bev's single at 18th January, 1967, and sure enough, it was! Debuted at 39, peaked at 6, spending 12 weeks on the NSW charts. Of course, this puts the issue date of the single back to around mid-December, 1966. There's a bit of a lag between issue date and chart debut date.
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Hit Wave | If you click on the rear cover for a close look, the tongue-in-cheek cover notes may give you a laugh or two, R.C. By the way, where's that link?
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Hit Wave | The Bev Harrell clip might've been from 1968. The brief appearance at the end of the clip of the logo for Up-Tight is misleading as the cameraman in the shot was operating one of the Cameras for Melbourne ABC's Station ABV. She was performing the song live, not miming.
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl Album[no artist listed] - Top Of The Pops: Vol. 10 | The Al Martino version, mentioned by Record Collector, turned up on the first Explosive Hits LP in 1970. As far as I'm aware, that's the ONLY way it was issued here. There is no Australian EMI-Capitol catalogue number for it as a single.
Neil Forbes 10th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Hit Wave | The HMV label is circa late 1960s, about right for this issue. An earlier HMV label design used by EMI appears to be a slightly-modified version of the 78rpm label. The label version we're more familiar with, from the Explosive Hits series, had its genesis(Phil Collins butts in here..."did someone mention Genesis? I used to be in that..." Get outta here Phil, we're not talking about you!) Where was I? Oh yes, The label we're more familiar with, had its beginnings in 1970 or so.
Neil Forbes 9th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Beatles' Greatest Hits Volumes 1 And 2 | Have you got the tracks stored as MP3 audio files? - then R.C., all I can tell you is "Burn, Baby, Burn(that CD)!" It'll cost you a darn sight less than ninety bucks!
Neil Forbes 9th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Hit Wave | Rear sleeve cover notes written - in part - with tongue firmly wedged in cheek! Those ugly-as-sin publishing company credit "stamps" taking up valuable real estate on the A-side label, causing the catalogue number to be moved out from its rightful spot. You in Britain never had to put up with this nonsense on your singles or albums.
One other thing, three Motown cover versions grace this set, from The Twilights(A1), The Vibrants(B1) and Bobbie Thomas & The Whispers(B7).

Neil Forbes 9th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Lennon - Rip It Up | Yes, please?
Neil Forbes 9th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Lennon - Rip It Up | I see I'm going to have to upload those Hit Wave ad Another Hit Wave covers and labels as they don't come up in the search facility. Should have them ready by next week.
Neil Forbes 9th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Lennon - Rip It Up | R.C., did as you suggested, "If you type hit wave volume three it would come up in your search engine" All I got was that comment by you. Did you upload the Hit Wave Vol.3 cover and labels? If so I'll have another try later.
Neil Forbes 9th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Lennon - Rip It Up | Yep, thought it might've been. By the way, R.C., did you get the PM I sent you?
