Neil Forbes 2nd Oct 2015 | | 78 RPMThe King Brothers - Rockin' Shoes / In The Middle Of An Island | @xiphophilos(that's a mouthful!) It conflicts in a way that simply proves my theory was wrong, but I have already admitted as much in my comment of just over 12 hours ago. I was simply amazed to see a pre-1958 issue with "Recording First Published..." printed thereon, assuming perhaps that the 45rpm version also carries "Recording First Published 1957". That's what I really liked about British records. Australian records never had this detail at all through the 1950s and 1960s. Not until the early 1970s did we start to see the encircled 'P' with the year after it, and even then not all labels carried it.

Neil Forbes 2nd Oct 2015 | | TVThe Champions (1968 - 1969) | @Cptbeefheart, A DVD drive in a computer totally ignores region codes and will happily play any DVD from any region! I would expect that also to be the case with Blu-ray drives.

Neil Forbes 2nd Oct 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny O'Keefe - The Living Legend Of Johnny O'Keefe | Sorry 'bout the quality of the rear cover image, but hey, what can you expect from a 2nd-hand record?
Neil Forbes 2nd Oct 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny O'Keefe - The Living Legend Of Johnny O'Keefe | Here it is, RC! Subtitled "A 40th Birthday Tribute", the album was issued in 1975, the number, NA-456, is a full 16 issues before the "Tear Jerkers" LP. The pen-marks around the labels were made by the original owner, whomever he/she was. The autographed poster advertised on the gold sticker on the front cover is long gone! This little black duck missed out because I bought this second-hand. The sleeve is actually a gate-fold with pics and cover notes inside, I'll scan these and add them later.

Neil Forbes 2nd Oct 2015 | | TVRed Dwarf (1988 - Now) | Must be getting close to the new series airing on ABC here in Australia.... Oh smeg, I can't wait....!
Neil Forbes 2nd Oct 2015 | | TVThe Champions (1968 - 1969) | @23Skidoo, if you have a Blu-Ray drive on your computer, you can play discs from any and all regions without need to convert to any given region. It works that way with DVDs so I don't see why Blu-Rays won't work the same way. As they say in the classics, "suck it and see!"

Neil Forbes 2nd Oct 2015 | | 78 RPMPerry Como - More / Glendora | After commenting on the 1957 Parlophone 78 earlier, and noting the presence of "Recording First Published..." on the label, the absence of same on this 1956 HMV issue, fairly narrows down when "Recording First Published..." started appearing on British 78rpm and 45rpm labels.
Neil Forbes 2nd Oct 2015 | | 78 RPMThe King Brothers - Rockin' Shoes / In The Middle Of An Island | Just noticed this 78 has "Recording First Published...." on its label. That shoots my theory about recording year-dates starting in 1958 full of holes. I only came up with that idea after seeing some pre-1958 45s without the "Recording First Published...." printed on them, though not EMI product.

Neil Forbes 1st Oct 2015 | | 78 RPMBilly Vaughn - Berlin Melody / Theme From "Come September" | There was, of course, the 45rpm version as 45-ESS-1012 with the familiar layout. but it's not surprising to see this as a 78, The Gramophone Company Of India were still issuing 78rpm versions alongside the 45s well into the 1960s, possibly as late as 1968.

Neil Forbes 1st Oct 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 20 Great Tear Jerkers | Keep an eye out, RC, I'll submit it in the next couple of days(the J O'K 40th Anniversary tribute LP, that is).
Neil Forbes 1st Oct 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Lennon - Mind Games | I agree on your first comment, RC, the rest of the album is just Ono-obsessed dross. On your second comment, sorry, I can't see in the cover but the separation explains the mood of the album.
Neil Forbes 1st Oct 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Lennon - Mind Games | This is the issue I have, but blow me, why did I even bother to buy it? It's only because it was an "import" that I bothered with it at all. Content-wise it was a huge disappointment with so much of it showing Lennon's near-obscene obsession with Yoko Ono.
Neil Forbes 1st Oct 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 20 Great Tear Jerkers | RC, I was referring to the 40th Anniversary album, but wasn't even aware of a second K-Tel J O'K album, let alone a third.
Neil Forbes 30th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 20 Great Tear Jerkers | If that's the tribute album, I recently picked it up on LP but had the cassette first.

Neil Forbes 30th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Velvet Gloves And Spit | I think the album was reissued under the title "Brooklyn Roads".

Neil Forbes 30th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 20 Great Tear Jerkers | Ah.... yeah!
Neil Forbes 30th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 20 Great Tear Jerkers | I think I'm going to have to check the contents of this album to see if there are any more rerecorded songs. K-Tel's credibility is already in tatters just with one rerecorded track. The "Original Hits" claim here is totally bogus as such a claim can only be made if the tracks are as per the original 45rpm issues.

Neil Forbes 30th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumFreda Payne - Let It Be Me | Joined Invictus in 1969? I'm having another "Maxwell Smart Moment" here! Ha-ha!
Neil Forbes 30th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumDr. Hook - Greatest Hits | RC, did you see my latest comment on the British version?
Neil Forbes 30th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumDr. Hook - Greatest Hits | This British variant has tracks missing from the Australian version and a couple of tracks here which were not in the Australian version. Plus it's an 18-tracker against 20 tracks for the Aussie version, still, it's 8 more than the American version.
Neil Forbes 30th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumFreda Payne - Let It Be Me | So the original issue had to be pre-1970, before Payne joined Invictus.
Neil Forbes 30th Sep 2015 | | CinemaJack The Ripper (1959) | I guess, George, we both had a "Maxwell Smart Moment".... Missed it by tha-a-a-at much!
Neil Forbes 30th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumFreda Payne - Let It Be Me | Is this LP pre- or post-Invictus? Her records for the Holland/Dozier/Holland-owned Invictus label were from 1970 and 1971 but it is said in the notes this is a reissue, so when was the original issue?
Neil Forbes 30th Sep 2015 | | CinemaJack The Ripper (1959) | George Slv: - "....the London Jack The Ripper of 1988" Shouldn't that have been 1898?
Neil Forbes 30th Sep 2015 | | CinemaJack The Ripper (1959) | Walking down the street the other day, saw a pile of shredded paper so I knew "Jack The Ripper" had been here! Ha-ha!
Neil Forbes 30th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 20 Great Tear Jerkers | Oh dear! A rerecording! So much for the Original Hits claim. How many more are there? I do so hate it when they do this, and it shoots their credibility to smitherines as well. And RC, perhaps those Keyboard Gremlins are "pointing the bone" at you(hee-hee).
