OldMod67 9th Jan 2021 | | BookVarious Authors - Empire Made | @ David Whiteley Nice to see the full cover picture, thanks. I scanned mind back when I had a laptop and scanner, but was reluctant to open it more then my usual 'reading' position!
I still recall getting my Richard Barnes 'Mods!' book in 1980, by about '82 it was already very loose at the spine. This may have been a case of dodgy binding though, as my other Eel Pie book, Maximum R&B went they same way very quickky!

OldMod67 3rd Jan 2021 | | BookLionel Fanthorpe - U.F.O. 517 | One of the best things for me with these sites, 45s, L.P.s and especially books, is the array of covers on old and overseas releases. This cover is really similar to some of those pulp sci-fi novels from fifties USA. Not something I've ever really bought, but wish I had a collection of now!
|
OldMod67 1st Jan 2021 | | BookVarious Contributors - The PuffinCyclopedia Of Children's Classics | @David Whiteley, thanks David! I had a habit of picking up every freebie bookmark we had come in, tucking them away. Unfortunately (or not if you're into de-cluttering), many seem to have vanished over time... I used to be a terrible hoarder.

OldMod67 30th Dec 2020 | | BookJules Verne - The Castle In Transylvania | Serialised in Le Magasin d'Education et de Recreation and first published in France as Le Chateaux des Carpathes by editions Hetzel in 1892. First published in English as The Castle of the Carpathians by The Merriam Company in 1894.

OldMod67 26th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe V.I.P.s [mod Revival] - Need Somebody To Love | Tracks identical to 90s Beat Crazy collection, which includes all singles, including the split ROK label 45, the Music For Funsters debut and the band's second track on the ROK sampler LP.
Writing credits differ from previous releases. No credits on label, credits taken from inner sleeve. Lyrics to Hippy Hippy Shake are not included, presumably as a cover.
Delayed due to pressing issues, preordered copies surfaced in time for Christmas 2020.
Glorious package, although discrepancies between label, sleeve and inner. e.g. sleeve and label read Boy Of The City. Typo on inner reads Love Ia A Golden Word..
I've got all the 45s bar the 1978 one, so very pleased to have a great run of singles all in one place. A Christmas present, my first V.I.Ps record since the eighties. Sounds amazing!
Update:
HOWEVER! There is a bit of surface noise towards the end of side one. Not very apparent on the portable deck downstairs, but on another it is more noticeable. I assumed it was a dubbed from disc issue, but seems not. Optic Nerve are repressing and replacing!
Update #2: The repressing happened; all good!

OldMod67 16th Dec 2020 | | BookMichael Avallone - The Girl From U.N.C.L.E. No.2 The Birds Of A Feather Affair | Just revisiting this after David Whiteley's update of another in the series. I wondered if some kind soul could replace my old image with another. The damage in the eyes gives it a Children of the Damned effect! Thanks in advance.

OldMod67 7th Dec 2020 | | BookE. F. Benson - The Outcast And Other Dark Tales | Horror seemed the best catch-all due to the 'dark' nature of the fiction. I did toy with adding Fantasy, but that to me conjures up dragons and the like. I'm still reading this book as if was an advance copy sent from British Library, sat waiting for me at work the whole time I was on Covid furlough...

OldMod67 30th Nov 2020 | | BookG. W. Dahlquist - The Glass Books Of The Dream Eaters | @David Whiteley, Hi. Some branches had the belly-bands and cards, although I think we had to request them. Thing may have gone awry as the subbing in of stock may well have occurred in the October, when our Ottakar's had just been absorbed into HMV and re-branding as a Waterstones (October 2006). There were also some of the masks around too....The instalments were a good way to read them and I do recall our Penguin rep having a signed set of those.
|
OldMod67 29th Nov 2020 | | BookG. W. Dahlquist - The Glass Books Of The Dream Eaters | Illustrations added of ten instalment set, popped back in its shrinkwrap after reading. Also added Waterstones Chapter One sample. This was available free to customers.

OldMod67 28th Nov 2020 | | BookG. W. Dahlquist - The Glass Books Of The Dream Eaters | First published in the United States of America by Bantam Dell, a division of Random House, Inc August 1st 2006. First published in Great Britain by Viking, October 16th 2006 in ten chapter instalments, by subscription. The single volume was published in hardcover as above, January 25th 2007.
Note: The ten instalments were also shrinkwrapped and used as advance copies to booksellers.
A chapter sample was also used as a trailer for the book to customers of Waterstones Bookshops.

OldMod67 24th Nov 2020 | | TVAdventures Of Superman (1952 - 1958) | I used to watch reruns of this in England in the 1970s. I don't however recall seeing it in colour and we did have colour tv. Perhaps my memory is a bit off...

OldMod67 22nd Nov 2020 | | BookE. C. Tubb - Breakaway | Belatedly added (rather tatty) cover, first printing. 143pp refers to numbered pages, this is followed by the unnumbered blank.
|
OldMod67 22nd Nov 2020 | | 12" SingleThe Dream Academy - Please Please Please | I've added a pic of the shrink sticker. If it warrants a new entry I will of course do it, unless a fellow Catter wants to pop it on.
|
OldMod67 22nd Nov 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Dream Academy - The Dream Academy | Added missing info, including additional cat no. Variations on the 1985 release exist, including mine, pressed in Germany for sale in UK. This edition has no barcode on rear sleeve.
Inner sleeve does not photograph well (for me!) It is a white poly-lined inner with printed lyrics.

These perennial bestselling local publications were usually one print run. Often published ready for the Christmas market I used to source them direct from The Echo and were a major seller, both for my local section and for the shop as a whole. As Christmas gifts they were always one of the most popular series of books.

OldMod67 17th Nov 2020 | | BookJohn Wyndham - Web | @ppint That's really interesting. I presumed it was just the lure of ££ that got it out, along with the tenth anniversary of Wyndham's passing. Brian Aldiss mentioned in a documentary some years back that Wyndham asked him to collaborate on a 'spider' novel, but declined. I assumed it was still to be polished until I read different a lot later on (amazing what you can find on this internet thingie) but apparently it was complete. I actually really enjoyed it and although very short I got sucked right into it. Not really a big fan of spiders, so that was on my mind....
