OldMod67 23rd Jun 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumSam And Dave - Double Dynamite | I've not entered a release date for this yet. If anyone can do so, obviously feel free.
I bought a load of these reissued Stax/Atlantic LPs as Canadian imports in the mid-late 80s so assume they date from around that time. All came straight off the shelf from major London retailers.

OldMod67 22nd Jun 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumOtis Redding - Ready, Steady, Otis! Otis Redding Live! | Inner sleeve die-cut on one side; both sides feature colour illustrations of releases from the label. Flipback sleeve. The label is based on the old orange/white/purple UK Atlantic design.
I got the RSG! recordings in the eighties when Dave Clark was issuing his VHS series. I always hoped for a soundtrack issue. After all these years I'm surprised with this Father's Day present.

OldMod67 19th Jun 2020 | | BookJ. R. R. Tolkien - The Hobbit | @23skidoo. Thanks for uploading the pix. Even if I could scan mine it would be useless, as mine has been read to death over the last 40 years and the condition reflects that!
The cover illustration is as your copy, but mine's on a brown background, an Unwin logo at centre bottom. Thanks again.

OldMod67 18th Jun 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Unicorn One...beyond Tomorrow | Wondered if this 1980s Unicorn label could be listed separately from the one it's wrongly listed with? Maybe Unicorn (Mod) due to its connection to the eighties Mod scene..?
I see that's now done (19/6), thanks!

OldMod67 17th Jun 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Byrds - The Original Singles 1965-1967 | I got mine from Our Price in Bournemouth in the early eighties. Bought volume two at the same time, pretty sure there was a deal on!

OldMod67 10th Jun 2020 | | BookPeter O'Donnell - The Silver Mistress | @23skidoo. Yeah, I've put forth my views before on this and despite members' pointers to change to International, I don't think this is always actioned. I stand by my views regarding where the book was printed for (not always where it was printed or bound) and imports are just that, manufactured for a market elsewhere. Having said all that, I wouldn't request changing your entries! I rarely request anything unless I spot a typo (including mine). You've had a great run adding entries recently and I for one appreciate it!
|
OldMod67 10th Jun 2020 | | BookPeter O'Donnell - The Silver Mistress | I've still yet to see this rule; when you add books you select where it was published. For example, A Taste For Death, published in Great Britain, with UK price on reverse, followed by overseas pricing. To me common sense would still dictate a UK edition, International being a bit of a cop-out.
|
OldMod67 10th Jun 2020 | | BookPeter O'Donnell - A Taste For Death | @23skidoo Hi, this seems to be reprint of my original entry (same ISBN) the covers identical, with the exception of price increases in yours; UK price 30p on mine. No illustration on my entry yet due to previously mentioned issues, although my cover is quite tatty and marked anyway, so I may not have bothered!
Still listed mine under UK issue though (produced in Great Britain for sale here and in other territories). I haven't read the Modesty Blaise books for years and feel a re-read long overdue..
|
OldMod67 10th Jun 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumRev. Martin Luther King And Others - The Great March On Washington | I got really lucky with this one. I picked up an unsold copy, with a cut out sleeve, in a bargain / clearout section in Southampton (UK) around 1987. I think it was about £1.50...
|
OldMod67 9th Jun 2020 | | BookTod Sullivan - Joe 90 And The Raiders | Cat# from Armada website.
|
OldMod67 5th Jun 2020 | | Live MusicThe Blues Band @ Poole Arts Centre | A seated gig, unfortunately. There was however a great Paul Jones solo spot, performing Nat Adderley's Work Song. A cover of this was included on Homage, their 1993 album.
|
OldMod67 4th Jun 2020 | | BookMarc Scott Zicree - The Twilight Zone Companion | The 1992 date listed is the first Silman - James edition. The actual first may well have been 1982, but a different publisher first time around, maybe Bantam, but I don't have the detail of this.
|
OldMod67 2nd Jun 2020 | | TVThe Tomorrow People (1973 - 1979) | I loved this back in the 70s and watched a few online a while back. It was the first time I'd seen it since I was a kid and it was fabulous. Unlike some shows when re-watched years later that seem tacky and dated, this was still a really great watch!
|
OldMod67 1st Jun 2020 | | BookRoger Guttridge - Poole | Photographs from The Francis Frith Collection. Additional photographs by Sylvie Guttridge.
Printed and Bound in Italy. These books formed part of a Local Interest range stocked at Ottakar's Bookshops, which included in the same range (in association with Frith) a local quiz book, a town miscellany, notebooks and prints used in the books.
|
OldMod67 1st Jun 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Monkees - Head | Also came with brown-on-white printed insert; Japanese text one side, English lyrics on other.
Incidentally, I've still got mine in the polybag it came in, from Tower Records, Piccadilly Circus.
The price sticker indicated it was £14.98, reduced to £12.99. It had then been rebagged as a 12" single, still with its import stamp on, for £3.29. I left the store with a massive grin that day....
|
OldMod67 1st Jun 2020 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Stax Revue Live At The 5/4 Ballroom | Writing credits as listed. Tracks 1 ,2 ,3 ,4 and 11 listed as by Booker T & The MGs (re-formatted on confirmation, presumably to standardise entry of this fine band).
In Stereo.
|
OldMod67 1st Jun 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumT. Rex - The Slider | And the U.S inner was a clear polybag, adorned with multiple blue WB logos. There's also a printed number on the top (opening) right corner: 3 5452
|
OldMod67 1st Jun 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Residents - The Residents Commercial Album | A weird and mammoth task, rating a 40 track album, each song a minute long! I haven't listened to this with any regularity since the eighties, but have played the whole album shedloads over the last few days. Varied and weird. A real pleasure though.
Interesting how the U.S artwork was used here, but song titles shuffled into the wrong order....
Apparently first pressing of the American edition was wrong, so all is clear now (28/6)
|
OldMod67 26th May 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Takin' You There | Track B6 has the censored lyric (no 'mother'!)
|
OldMod67 26th May 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumIsaac Hayes - Isaac's Moods : The Best Of Isaac Hayes | Timing note:
Track B1 is an uncensored 3.16 version
Track B5 is the 4.31 version.
|
OldMod67 24th May 2020 | | BookGary Russell - Doctor Who: Big Bang Generation | As you may have seen, there has been some discussion regarding 'international ' releases and not just books. For a random example, Cathy Come Home (Pan Books, 1967) has rear pricing for UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. As far as I'm concerned this is a UK book that was also for sale in these other territories. Sometimes they were given additional stickers or stamps indicating that countries' price on the front to make it clear.
To me that's still a UK book. I still enter these items as based on the primary market, which with my items tends to be UK. Record wise a load of records were pressed in France and Germany, but manufactured for sale in the UK. These are not imports.
I have a feeling that the matter will never be agreed on, but obviously if these entries get switched to international, then so be it. This will make searching for items a muddy affair and detrimental to an organised site though.

OldMod67 22nd May 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - The World Of Hits | I used to play this a lot. My older brother bought the stereo edition when it came out and it was one of those LPs 'around the house' that I used to listen to, although all the tracks were old by then. My brother eventually gave me the record to keep around 1979, which tied in nicely with my sixties fixation! Bless him!
