I will be removing this wrap, so another front cover image will follow.

OldMod67 16th Mar 2022 | | TVPhilip K. Dick's Electric Dreams (2017 - Now) | This series (still just the one, so far) was made by Sony and shown on Channel 4 in the UK and Amazon in the USA. Of the ten episodes, five were shot in England and five in America.
The tie-in book contains the ten original source stories, with alternate script title where different, along with an introduction to each by the writer who adapted the story for the series.

OldMod67 15th Mar 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumAnthony Meynell And Squire - Hits From 3000 Years Ago | One of the things I've always loved about Squire is their melodies. This album has a collection of sixties inspired songs, some from the demos, some live.

OldMod67 13th Mar 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumAnthony Meynell And Squire - September Gurls | When I bought the mini album/12" back in 1984, little did I know that some 35 years later it would be expanded into a great full length LP. The newly recorded songs fit perfectly.

OldMod67 7th Mar 2022 | | BookMartin Luther King Jr - The Autobiography Of Martin Luther King, Jr. | Thanks for the review, Magic Marmalade. I read it first a long time ago, back to back with Robert Dallek's book on JFK, An Unfinished Life. I only own the proof of that, but a finished copy is on 45spaces, JFK World. I found both a great read, especially with their history and all to short lives.
Your review is very much how I saw it and I've read the MLK book a few times since. I knew some of his life but no idea of the Gandhi influence. Certainly a 'must read' for anyone interested in the civil rights struggle or even a character study of someone who really made a difference before forced to cease.

OldMod67 26th Feb 2022 | | TVCelebrity Squares (1975 - Now) | Belated reply (6 years later!) I had no idea back then that there was a U.S. version!
The UK version was really popular, so much so that I had a tie-in board game for Christmas in the mid seventies.

OldMod67 21st Feb 2022 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - California Soul: Funk & Soul From The Golden State 1967-1976 | We seem to have two Eleanor Rigby's at work here (who'd have thought that would happen?)
One 60's soul singer and the one from the 80's post-mod revival scene.
I presume one of you can amend one of the artists to reflect this, please?
ie Eleanor Rigby [80's] or [Mod] vs Eleanor Rigby [Soul]

OldMod67 21st Feb 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Left Banke - Voices Calling | I was a bit puzzled (and disappointed) when I bought this back in 1986. Nothing in the way of accompanying info, which many Bam Caruso used to contain, so I was unaware of its history.
Recorded by a reunited, but troubled line-up, in 1978 it came out in USA as Strangers On A Train also in '86. The UK edition also had the track listing altered.
|
OldMod67 20th Feb 2022 | | BookE. V. Odle - The Clockwork Man | Being a very cheap (less than £2!) I actually used it as an extra to qualify for free postage.
I expected errors of course, it is a POD edition and sure enough there are a few typos.
Not spoiling my enjoyment reading it though.

OldMod67 18th Feb 2022 | | TVThe Big Match (1968 - 1992) | @Paul Vinyl, indeed, proper football. No wimpy falling over (not as much anyway) Tough guys not afraid to go for the ball. A lot of today's players wouldn't last five minutes in the seventies game. Better days as far as I'm concerned.

OldMod67 17th Feb 2022 | | TVThe Big Match (1968 - 1992) | Although it's really a separate programme, those who watched this may enjoy The Big Match Revisited. Currently showing on TV again, this week has been from 1977...

OldMod67 8th Feb 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul Weller - A Kind Revolution | @russh29: thanks for the review. I must admit I quite like A4-B3, but it really is a mixed bag, which is how I (unfortunately) found his later releases to be. I do give them a listen, but this was the last release I bought. The last one I really loved was As Is Now, with some truly great tunes on the next few, but overall not as strong. He's still amazingly successful, so I'm in a minority I know!
|
OldMod67 7th Feb 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumOriginal Soundtrack - The Prisoner: Original Soundtrack Music | Note: Not exclusively via Six Of One (of which I was a member) but I was with a mate of mine who purchased this very edition (quite expensively) over the counter, at Our Price, Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth. It was the only copy. I ended up settling for the regular edition a while later, but had some of the contents separately.
|
OldMod67 7th Feb 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumJan And Dean - Jan And Dean Meet Batman | A query regarding the Bam Caruso edition of this L.P.
I bought a copy of this after hearing the first two tracks played on the John Peel show, mine coming with black & silver labels, not the more fancy one's illustrated here.
After spending Covid furlough investigating old record boxes and the like I recently found a cassette tape containing material taped from Peel shows, a common occurrence back then, this tape I'd dated 14/12/87, which may not be the broadcast date for the J&D tracks.
Regarding the Jan & Dean album, overlapping the two songs is a spoken word piece, starting over the screeching tyres of the Batmobile and continuing over the intro of the next tune, 'The Origin..'.
The spoken word piece is akin to "There are physical causes of insomnia and these too are such that they can be dealt with successfully. Many people go to bed and wonder why they're not sleeping.."
Does anyone out there know if this is some kind of error, does it appear on the other label copies?
Maybe it's a promo edition, I remember Our Price playing the JTQ Mission Impossible mini album in-store, with extra bits my stock copy didn't have...

OldMod67 23rd Jan 2022 | | BookJeff Walker - Sex And The Beatles: 400 Entries | Wow, this sounds unbelievably sordid, I'm surprised it's not published by Gutterpress.com or some similar sounding company! I remember getting The Love You Make and there was a bit of an outcry about its contents, although I thought it was quite a good read. I won't be going for this one though...
