Nat Gonella And His New Georgians - Plucking On A Golden Harp / Hep! Hep! The Jumpin' Jive (Jim Jim Jump)
No disrespect but I think my scans are closer to the actual colour of the labels. It is true that one of my labels is printed off-centre though.

Elvis Presley With The Jordanaires - ELVIS 18 UK # 1s
But... they aren't. What it says on the box is that they come "beautifully packaged in a replica UK RCA generic sleeve with original label artwork." But I believe that generic sleeve is the wrong one for the singles up to '59 (it is one of the great company sleeves though). And the green and white sleeves don't look right at all. And, you know, tri-centres? And the edges are too sharp...

Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer them to be the original mono mixes too. (I'd prefer it if those that were short enough played at 78 too, just because it would sound better.) But ultimately these are new records and it would have been impossible to make them in a way that would have pleased everyone. As this thread demonstrates.

I think when they decided to release three-track 10" 45 singles, they were already making it clear that this was not an attempt to recreate historical artefacts.

Stray Cats - Stray Cat Strut
Thanks for that. On the assumption that the information in the book isn't just derived from dates printed on labels, it seems there must have been something that happened in 1983. For what it's worth, my copy appears to have been exported to the USA - maybe that's relevant. The lead track sounds awesome in this format.

Apart from what it says on the labels, do we have any evidence that this 12" of a 1981 single was released in 1983? Unless they're different versions (and it's unlikely that the live version of Drink The Bottle Down from 12/3/81 is) then surely the publication year for A1 and B2 would have been 1981 even if this was a later release? I note that the equivalent "pin-up" labels on the 7" don't have a year on them - possibly the result of a correction? It would be an unusual mistake to misprint the current year as two years ahead (four times), but then the 7" apparently came out the month after the live tracks were recorded, so it was a quick turnaround.

Is this release date definitely right? The dates on other Brunswick releases around this cat no would place this around July or August.

I've no idea what the relative sales were (and I know they're from different years) but if the boxes I sift through are anything to go by, Laine's version of Cool Water must have significantly outsold this.

The Blue Mountaineers - Yes, Mr. Brown / Dreaming
Michael Thomas's site suggests all the releases on this imprint were 1933, with numbers running from 500 to around 530.

I've never had something removed but it depends on who's claiming ownership. I don't think it just comes down to the fifty (or whatever) years rule. Usually you just get notified that some party or other has claimed ownership and Google will then stick adverts on the video and pay the owner some of the revenues. If I suspect that the company claiming ownership does have a legitimate claim, I take the video down myself.

It's against the rules to monetize a video containing other people's work that you've no right to use, so I imagine things are different if you're doing that. But, obviously, don't be doing that.

The Beatles - Past Masters
If MMT hadn't been released on CD, ten of its eleven tracks would have had to have been on Past Masters instead. I'm struggling to see how the sanctity of the original UK discography would have been better served by shovelling the MMT EP anonymously into a now presumably triple-LP Past Masters compilation.

Miss Margaret Cooper - Hullo, Tu Tu
The recording angel was the logo of the Gramophone Company until it adopted the picture of Nipper in 1908. The company remained the Gramophone Company but the label came to be known (colloquially at least) as His Master's Voice.

Actually both label scans here say Extended Version. And in fact Only You isn't an extended version. Indeed some copies say Not Extended Version instead on that side, while some don't say either.

Madonna - Vogue (12" Version)
Mine is a UK copy but the T in the cat# is bracketed on the label - just like the version of German origin that's listed under UK. Indeed, it's bracketed on all the Sire UK labels I have.

Enrico Caruso - La Donna E Mobile
I should say I'm personally not too bothered either way. But my gut feeling is that if we're recording the labels as distinct entities then the release date should reflect the "release" date of the disc shown. That is to say, if a novice (and I'm no expert myself) came and looked at this page, he could come away with the impression that the disc he's got might be from as early as 1908. (And someone who isn't used to the idea of a record staying in press for more than a month or two would probably assume it must be from 1908.)

As I say, I can live with that, but it does feel kind of wrong to me.

Enrico Caruso - La Donna E Mobile
Comparison with the B series labels might point to this being closer to the mid-20s.

While I agree with scrough's analysis, if we continue to allow the various Gramophone labels to be entered as being distinct from His Master's Voice then we're likely to end up with the same record entered twice under two different labels but with the same release date.

The Beatles - Abbey Road
Maybe there was some confusion and they "corrected" the label by replacing The End with Her Majesty - after all the writing credit below Her Majesty looks like it's in the same font as the other credits.

Duke Ellington And His Famous Orchestra - Mood Indigo / Runnin' Wild!
Just to muddy the waters, Brunswick added a zero to the front of their cat nos. in 1933. Earlier releases that were still in the catalogue just got the zero added to the front. Mood Indigo was in the catalogue for many, many years. There are early copies bearing 1068 with a different credit - and that could be a different take for all I know - but there are 1068 copies with this credit and really they're the same release as this. This is just a later copy (and seriously, it could be a lot later).

Some similarity to one of the "anonymous" labels on Norman Field's site (they're under 'A' here http://www.normanfield.com/labels.htm). But it's the one he doesn't identify...

Chris. Hall - Meet Me In My Dreams Tonight / Tribute To Our Aero Heroine A M Y
According to MG Thomas's site, Chris Hall on this record is John Thorne (there's at least one song on Radio where it isn't). John Thorne was Thomas Greenhalgh. If you google those two names together you can find a few details about him.

Sound Effects - Football Crowd B.G. / Cheers
But why would just one track on side two be labelled "B.G. with drums"? It appears to be something in the audio - and it's unlikely you'd produce a sound effects record relating to a specific team. Is there something common to A1 and B9 that isn't in the other tracks?
