sladesounds 4th Nov 2017		Cinema Baby Driver (2017)	Rated 9/10 Quite a good action movie with lots of guns and fast cars along with a reasonable story line. What made this movie for me was the soundtrack and how it was used in relation to the storyline of the main character. Lots of classic tracks from Bob & Earl, T.Rex, Damned and Carla Thomas to name a few. I also enjoyed the way the opening track (Bob & Earl) played out like a pop video with the graffiti graphics. [YouTube Video] PS Since posting this review/comment I have read a printed interview with the director where he explains how he first came up with a list of songs that he wanted to use as the soundtrack and the script was written to fit in with those songs rather than fitting the songs into the script as is the norm. sladesounds 11th Oct 2017		CD Album The Beatles - Purple Album 1962-1966	A strange case of a bootleg being bootlegged. I pick this up in the early 2000's (I think) around the time all the other Purple Chick releases started flooding the newsgroups. Basically you have a fan compiling a fantasy 1962-1966 using tracks that appeared on the various Beatle's Purple Chick deluxe editions. Unlike the "genuine" Purple Chick releases very little information is provided about the actual recordings and no cat# is used. The big give away is the small print on scan 3 which states "Purple Chick logo used without permission"! I have had a good look on t'web for more information and to try and discover who actually put this together but failed miserably. Any other catters know more?

sladesounds 11th Oct 2017		CD Album Johnny Cash - America	Review An interesting album that was first released in 1972. On the album Johnny Cash attempts to tell the 200 year story of America condensed into a 40 minute mixture of songs and spoken word. Subject covered are many and include Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, tales of Paul Reeve and Big Foot and renditions of a few classic songs such as The Battle of New Orleans. There are better Cash albums out there and I would be tempted to point people elsewhere if they wanted classic Cash but then this is the man singing about America and how good it is and has been, and for many that's good enough! Whilst I guessed on the Columbia being blanked out as there was already a UK Columbia record label I never thought of the possible US military connection even though I bought many an album myself from the military exchanges in Germany.

The company Columbia has been manually blacked on the rear of the sleeve and the labels have had a paper circle pasted on to hide the company details. This is the 2nd or 3rd one like this in my collection so I guess it was a fairly common practice.

sladesounds 20th Sep 2017		CD Album Various Artists - No More Heroes	Review Artwork shows the obligatory safety pin so this must be cutting edge (or so the advertising gurus will want us to think). What you actually get is a good run through some of the great pop releases that hit the UK charts during 1978 - 83 with a few obscure gems chucked in to meet the punk tag. Disc one features a few early punk tracks from The Damned, Ramones and Richard Hell but is mostly great power pop tunes from the likes of Buzzcocks, Skids, Rezillos. Automatic Lover by The Vibrators is a good one that does not turn up on these complications that often. Disc two carries on the power pop theme with Blondie, Pretenders, Regents but again slips a the odd more obscure one such as Shake Some Action from the Flamin' Groovies. Split Enz and The Mobiles... both good songs but really stretching the genre to include them on this compilation (I always thought of The Mobiles as Hazel O'Connor soundalikes). Disc 3 again has some great tracks that at the time were marketed as New WaveAlternative but again more power pop oriented. One or two real gems are there with The Damned, 999, and Wreckless Eric. Nice to see Glen Matlock's Rich Kids getting an entry. All of this is music of my youth so I don't personally think there is a bad song on any of the three discs. Overall a big thumbs up from me especially as it can picked up on ebay for just a few pounds. 3 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?

sladesounds 14th Sep 2017		Vinyl Album Elton John - Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player	DJH 20427 does not have the Pye Distribution info on the inside cover and is as The Judge states a later issue (re-issue?). I think it could do with its own entry and I will scan the sleeves etc. and create one in the coming days.

This is what I am referring to when asking where this information comes from, I can't see it on the label or sleeve. Track information should only show what is listed on label (or sleeve).
