TopPopper 11th Feb 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Beatles Box | I wonder why they used a Pepper-era photo on this album?
TopPopper 24th Jan 2020 | | CD AlbumBadly Drawn Boy - The Hour Of Bewilderbeast | [YouTube Video]
Good song.
TopPopper 19th Jan 2020 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band | Interesting. If it's unofficial though, should it be listed as a bootleg?
TopPopper 13th Jan 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul And Linda McCartney - Ram | I heard it has recently come to light that unbeknownst to all, this album was produced by George Martin!
TopPopper 10th Jan 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Big Beat Of The Beatles | I would suggest we keep them. They look to be the same labels as the precedings pair of images, but better quality. They just need editing. I would do it, but I'm pressed for time right now.
TopPopper 7th Jan 2020 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Now That's What I Call Music! 52 | I've hidden most of them now, as they seem only to duplicate images already here.
TopPopper 2nd Jan 2020 | | MagazinePaul McCartney Is Dead | Let me introduce to you, the one and only Billy Shears.
TopPopper 2nd Jan 2020 | | Music MemorabiliaElvis Presley - 5" Pewter Statuette | Good likeness, facially.
TopPopper 15th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumWings - Greatest | Boy bands tend not to play their own instruments, break ground in the use of recording technology, make landmark albums or change the course of western culture.
TopPopper 3rd Nov 2019 | | Vinyl Album[no artist listed] - 12 Tops | My guess is that the 25p sticker was added by a second-hand record dealer, and 60p was the price when new.
TopPopper 29th Oct 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour | Just to be pedantic, the album was available in the UK from 1973, but not on vinyl.
TopPopper 23rd Oct 2019 | | VHSThe Beatles - Anthology 8 | Were these tapes (and ditto the DVDs) sold individually? If not, I wonder if they should only be listed together.
TopPopper 20th Oct 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Please Please Me | Mis-pressings like that do occur from time to time. What you have is probably worth something - collectors take increasing interest in mis-pressed records, and the Beatles are the most collactable of the lot.
TopPopper 20th Oct 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumMajella - The Spinning Wheel And Other Irish Favourites | SHM 699 is 1970, so I have changed it.
TopPopper 20th Oct 2019 | | Vinyl Album[no artist listed] - Hits '67 | Is it a manufacturer's sticker, or one put on by the retailer? If the former, I catalogue these variants, so would be interested to see an image.
TopPopper 20th Oct 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - I Walk The Line | Agreed the date was wrong, but changed to 1973, not 1971. Many of these Hallmark LPs were released some years after recording, so the dates on the packaging are not always good to refer to. A good method to date them is to check the cat numbers against the Top of the Pops releases on the label between 1968 and 1982. These are all listed correctly on the site, so in this case, for example, SHM 849 will have been released alongside the Top of the Pops LPs, SHM 845 and SHM 850. Ergo, 1973.
TopPopper 19th Oct 2019 | | Vinyl Album[no artist listed] - Top Of The Pops: Vol. 86 | Indeed, "Top of the Poppers" was a name the label sometimes used, but it's more of a marketing thing than an actual credit for an actual artist. These recordings were made by an outside firm called Coombe Music and to all intents and purposes, the recording act was left anonymous.
TopPopper 16th Oct 2019 | | Cassette AlbumELO - The Best Of ELO | Can't get it out of my "hand" ??
TopPopper 12th Oct 2019 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Now That's What I Call Music 4 | I don't think that's disc rot. I think it's the reflection of the photographer. You can make out a thumb on the left-hand side.
TopPopper 7th Oct 2019 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - The Please Please Me Sessions | I know who created this a few weeks ago, and as many fan remixers do, he also created mock-up CD inserts. These aren't scans of a paper booklet, you will notice. They are computer generated for printing out. So far as I know this does not exist physically, and there's no Hey Zube! label. It's a brilliant bit of work, mind you - just not a CD.
TopPopper 7th Oct 2019 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - The Please Please Me Sessions | In that case, I'm sorry to say that it doesn't belong on the site. There is a 45space for download music, where it could maybe go - but this particular World is for actual CDs.
TopPopper 5th Oct 2019 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - The Please Please Me Sessions | Great item, but does this actually exist as a phyical product? To my knowledge it was made available for download.
TopPopper 22nd Sep 2019 | | BookOwen Jones - The Establishment | Not sure why anyone would think this guy is part of the establishment. Sure, he's made a name for himself in journalism, but his dad was working class, worked for the local council, and he was sent to a state comprehensive school.
TopPopper 22nd Sep 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumMitch Ryder - The Detroit-Memphis Experiment | Not sure what you mean
TopPopper 17th Sep 2019 | | CD AlbumDiana Ross And The Supremes - All The Best Of Diana Ross & The Supremes | I reckon (Diana Ross and) the Supremes must have had more 'greatest hits' collections released than any other artist.
TopPopper 28th Aug 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumJimi Hendrix - Crash Landing | Sapper - or someone with a copy - can you clarify whether the sleeve goes with this edition? The cat number on the back of the sleeve does not match the labels.
TopPopper 13th Aug 2019 | | CD AlbumThe Cult - Love | I don't think the images are for a 1985 edition. My early copy (bought 1990-ish) has no lavish packaging or design on the disc, as was the norm back then.
TopPopper 26th Jul 2019 | | Vinyl Album[no artist listed] - Top Of The Pops | Have deleted the image, which was the UK sleeve. The correct sleeve for this album has the Diskos logo, and the UK catalogue number is removed. I've also changed the artist to [no artist listed] - the credit 'Top of the Poppers' does not appear on this product.
TopPopper 23rd Jun 2019 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Complete BBC Sessions Upgraded | According to Mark Lewisohn (The Beatles: Tune In) track 6, "Please Mr Postman", was the first broadcast anywhere in Britain of a Motown song.
TopPopper 1st Jun 2019 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Abbey Road | This series of events is bound to be of great interest - link
Mark Lewisohn talks (for the first time, to my knowledge) about what he knows, and we don't - yet - about the Abbey Road album. The show is called Hornsey Road - and only he knows why at the moment.
Happy to give this a plug, and for the record, it's nothing to do with me! Just wanting to spread the word for fellow Beatles fans.
