George Slv 22nd Jan 2016 | | 78 RPMTeresa Brewer - The Thing / I Guess I'll Have To Dream The Rest (1950) | Here is the first documentation I have found of a chart position for this record of hers. worldcharts.co.uk
Other necessary information: Looking at the CD release I see the UK release dropped one of the verses and was shorter. Anyone have explanations?
The full version is on Youtube.
That webpage also lists her as having The Telephone Song by teresa brewer, but that is clearly an error.

George Slv 22nd Jan 2016 | | 78 RPMEtienne Paree - Music! Music! Music! / Pagan Love Song (1949) | Posted Billboard comment about the record from Dec 31 '49.
Infectious but not entirely successful.
Actually the song originated in the 1930s, but Paree's was the first in 1949.

This is the version that was mocked by Gene Rayburn in New York before the song caught on.
The third in the set is Teresa's 1974 RCA recording.

George Slv 13th Oct 2015 | | 78 RPMMario Lanza - Ave Maria / Because (1951) | I notice that the soundtrack album of the day omitted Ave Maria and some others, and only had 8 songs. Ave Maria was only issued on the single, rerecorded by RCA, not the movie version.
Everyone should realize that there are two compositions of Ave Maria. This one is by Gounod. The other, by Schubert, Lanza also recorded, in Serenade.
Did Gounod only arrange this from the Bach melody, or did he compose the vocal melody?
Current digital collections bring all the songs back together, digitized from old records. (Not "REMASTERED" for Pete's sake)

George Slv 13th Oct 2015 | | 78 RPMMario Lanza - Ave Maria / Because (1951) | What's the length of Ave Maria here? The 45 was ~2:36. There's a recording around that's over 4 min with instrumental in the first half.
This is not lifted from the movie soundtrack. Was there a different soundtrack album recorded as well?

Anyway she sang it on Ed Sullivan and that's available at Historic Films. To professionals only, for big bucks. Would be good to see.
