Graham7 19th Jun 2013 | | 78 RPMReginald Dixon - Broadway Melody Of 1936 (1936) | Found in charity shop in 3 pieces. They let me take it for free (I did buy some 45s). Did what I could scanning it.
Here's "The World Of Reginald Dixon", an LP featuring these tracks, somewhere on side 2 (see YouTube page for details,).

Graham7 5th Jun 2013 | | 78 RPMLeo Slezak - Bohème / Faust | Broken record (A side image edited, B side left as is), with interesting Ammre stamps: B side - "Gültig nur für (only valid in) Deutschland".
|
Graham7 5th Jun 2013 | | 78 RPMKünstler-Kapelle Dajos Béla - Ouvertüre zur komischen Oper Leichte Kavallerie, 1. Teil / Ouvertüre zur komischen Oper Leichte Cavallerie, 2. Teil (1923) | Just spotted that the labels have different fonts.
The A side spells the title with a K, the B side with a C.
|
Graham7 3rd Jun 2013 | | 78 RPMSymphonie Orchester - Ouvertüre zu "Dichter Und Bauer" / Ouvertüre zu "Dichter Und Bauer" (1922) | See here for brief history of Homophon / Homokord / Homocord - and here for English translation by google.
The dating chart shows recording date of this record as 26 Oct 1922 (K 26 D).
Oh, and Vollklang means 'full of sound.'.
|
Graham7 3rd Jun 2013 | | 78 RPMMarek Weber mit seinem Künstler-Ensemble - Carmen | I was wondering if this was an Export issue, due to the German printing on the labels. However it's from my Nana's collection, and is in a Genuine Co.(London) shop sleeve so I believe it was bought in the UK.
The cat# is the same as that on the German Electrola issue, see ebay.
|
Graham7 3rd Jun 2013 | | 78 RPMDajos Béla - Ouvertüre "Si J'étais Roi" (Wenn ich König wär'), I. Teil / Ouvertüre "Si J'étais Roi" (Wenn ich König wär'), II. Teil (1924) | Not sure what country this is from. I've added it as Germany, as the others I acquired in the same batch also are German, but the catalogue# doesn't seem to match any existing entries.
There is a boxed L on the labels, which may have significance?
|
Graham7 2nd Jun 2013 | | 78 RPMSousa's Band - The Sesqui-Centennial Exposition / Under The Double Eagle (1927) | Thanks.
I've had enough of HMV for the moment.
Rather rashly at the car boot today, with nothing else to buy (hardly a 45 in the whole field!) I bought about 70 78s, in 12 per book album folders.
Mostly classical, and fairly uninteresting, but one set is mainly German, including some nice Parlophon labels, so I'm getting the scanner out.
|
Graham7 2nd Jun 2013 | | 78 RPMThe Philharmonia Orchestra - Overture 1812, Op. 49 (1947) | I used to listen to these very records when little.
I don't think there are cannon on this version, bit tricky to check as record 2 is broken now!
I think I have/had a MFP LP, different to your version zabadak, which did declare cannons as part of the orchestra - but I'm not really sure.
|
Graham7 2nd Jun 2013 | | 78 RPMSousa's Band - The Sesqui-Centennial Exposition / Under The Double Eagle (1927) | Would this not be better with His Master's Voice as label, as all the others are?
PS. I have a full house on Latest Updates!
|
Graham7 2nd Jun 2013 | | 78 RPMNew Light Symphony Orchestra - Barcarolle (1926) | I've been scanning 12" HMVs, and I've noticed a couple more small labels. Now that I'm paying attention, I see that the small labelled ones do indeed seem to have longer tracks.

Sir Terry of Wogan did the probably better known version of this, some 66 years later, on the back of his promotion of a previously little known brass band 's hit version.
|
Graham7 22nd May 2013 | | 78 RPMR.A.F. Choruses - R.A.F. Choruses (1942) | I added one from this series a while back, see here. I used Royal Air Force as the label.
|
Graham7 19th May 2013 | | 78 RPMA. Sokolov - Morning Song / It Is Nice (1955) | My first Soviet record. Helpfully features printing in English. The Russian text could also be added, but it's beyond my skill level!
Also added images of the sleeve it came in.

Graham7 2nd May 2013 | | 78 RPMGeorge Shearing Quintet - The Continental / East Of The Sun (West Of The Moon) (1950) | Added it (MGM.571). Spelling on this one has now been changed to Quintet. Have asked for the 2 variations to be linked.
|
Graham7 1st May 2013 | | 78 RPMIvor Kirchin - The Chestnut Tree ('Neath The Spreading Chestnut Tree) / How To Dance 'The Chestnut Tree' (1938) | Variant added.
Both variants show A side as Side 2, B side as Side 1. How confusing.
|
Graham7 1st May 2013 | | 78 RPMDon Porto's Accordion Band - For You Rio Rita / Give Me Your Hand Little Lady (1933) | "There was also a blue-labelled SC-1 series for more serious music."
Indeed, I have just added one: SC 33.
|
Graham7 1st May 2013 | | 78 RPMGeorge Shearing Quintet - The Continental / East Of The Sun (West Of The Moon) (1950) | Quintette? Not in the UK.
I have a Quintet record to add, should I just put it under the US spelling?
|
Graham7 1st May 2013 | | 78 RPMGeraldo - I Don't Want To Be Loved (By Anyone Else But You) / Everybody Knew But Me (1946) | This is by Geraldo And His Orchestra, there are records listed here in that name also.
Some linking or changing of artist names is needed. There's also the Geraldo String Orchestra to consider.
|
Graham7 1st May 2013 | | 78 RPMThe Hilltoppers - Only You (And You Alone) / (It Will Have To Do) Until The Real Thing Comes Along (1956) | B side and variant A added.
Full title of B side is (It Will Have To Do) Until The Real Thing Comes Along
|
Graham7 1st May 2013 | | 78 RPMThe Lonnie Donegan Skiffle Group - Rock Island Line / John Henry (1955) | 4th label variation added. A side shows cat# as F-J.10647.
(B side looks much the same as image#7365)
I notice all copies so far show Exempt.
Does that mean: exempt from Purchase tax?
|
Graham7 1st May 2013 | | 78 RPMBill Haley And His Comets - Razzle Dazzle / Two Hound Dogs (1955) | R/T variant added - B side: Mills Music instead of Copyright Control.
|
Graham7 30th Apr 2013 | | 78 RPMVictor Silvester And His Ballroom Orchestra - Jealousy / Parana (1938) | I've not added Tango to the titles, though I see that dance types are added for the others in this discography.
(Sorry about the stickers)
|
Graham7 21st Apr 2013 | | 78 RPMFrank Sinatra - Sunday, Monday Or Always / You'll Never Know (1944) | Thanks for sorting. Got confused by the bland similarity of these Columbia labels.
I'm more glad that the potential disruption to the 45worlds didn't last as long as the title of this song might suggest.
