Ritchie Valens - Come On Let's Go / Dooby Dooby Wah (1958)
Pye had just lost the valuable Mercury franchise to EMI..looks like they used the same label paper for their new "Pye International" imprint

Arthur Askey - The Cuckoo / All To Specification (1939)
Unfortunately the first picture is such poor quality I can't do a thing with it
Any chance of a better image? Maybe with a lot less record and more label

S.E. Benito Mussolini - I Discorsi Dell'Impero (1942)
The trouble with listing boxed album sets this way...unless the whole
set has a specific catalogue number....none of the individual catalogue numbers show up in a search
Try and find DS010

Bing Crosby - Silver On The Sage / Mexicali Rose (1938)
I've noticed that when Decca dusted off older recordings to include in an album, the could reverse the A & B sides.
Like this one

Maybe, over time, the B side became the more popular tune

Bing Crosby - Merry Christmas (1945)
Its rare that these albums turn up complete. I find loads of single discs marked that they are part of a four, six or even a twelve disc album.....putting the albums together takes a lot of time and detective work.

If a disc is pressed on coloured shellac it must go in the notes otherwise it could be misinterpreted as still in its cover and edited away

David Whitfield - Ev'rywhere / Mama (1955)
Bunny Lewis remembers
I found a singer called David Whitfield and he was enormous, much bigger than Dickie Valentine. He was a dreadful fellow really. He’d been a merchant seaman and he was uncouth, to say the least. But he’d got this extraordinary voice; quite untrained, but it had the thrill of it, it had the kick and in a kind of rough looking way he was a good-looking fellow too.

My wife went down and she heard this fellow David Whitfield, who had done a Hughie Green thing (Opportunity Knocks?) but nothing had happened. Also there was a friend of ours, Harold Landau, a sort of an agent, more of a manager. He heard this fellow too. My wife came back and said ‘I think we should get this chap; you should get him for Decca and I should get him for agency.’
From an interview with David Hughes

Joyce Grenfell – Norman Wisdom - Narcissus (The Laughing Record) / I Don't 'Arf Love You (1952)
Norman Newell interview

I was having lunch with Joyce Grenfell when she was appearing at the Saville Theatre and she was talking about her mother and said ‘She used to sing a song for us and I used to love to join in but I always started to laugh’ so then she sang and she started to laugh. It was so funny I was nearly on the floor. I said ‘You really must record it. You can’t have your mother on it, you must have someone else.’ I had just seen Norman Wisdom and when he sang "Don’t Laugh At Me", I thought ‘Right, that’s a hit’ and took him into the studios. So I said would he make a record with Joyce Grenfell. He said ‘Yes, I know Joyce Grenfell but I want top billing.’ So I went to Joyce and said ‘I’d love you to do "Narcissus" with Norman Wisdom but he wants top billing.’ And she said ‘What a silly man! I don’t care if I’m second or third.’

Teddy Johnson And Jo Stafford - The Moment I Saw You / There's A Small Hotel (1951)
Norman Newell Interview
I handled the English and American Columbia Records, which meant we had boxes of 78’s from America and I had to go through them and see if there were any American hits that could be issued in this country…Guy Mitchell, Johnny Mathis. I recorded a duet with Jo Stafford and Teddy Johnson. We did Teddy Johnson here and Jo Stafford over there and then joined them together!
