After my comment of two years ago on here, a couple of weeks back I picked up six cartons of 78's from a local selling site, and lo and behold, there was this 78 in amongst them. And the other two UK Ritchie Valens 78's on London too!

Discographies show this 45/78 was issued in Nov 58 and it takes a very brave person to say that it wasn't.

Bob Keane (Del-Fi owner) licensed this to Pye Int and there is every good reason to think that he considered Dooby Dooby Wah was a better flip for the UK issue as it's more Valens-like in style.

"Framed" was a old Leiber/Stoller r&b comedy song from the Robins (pre-Coasters) and arguably not suited to Valens high voice especially the talk lines in the song.

The LP shows Keane, under his real name of Kuhn, co-wrote Dooby so maybe royalties came into it too. Bob Keane as label owner/producer was in a position to do whatever he wanted with Valens' catalogue - which he sure did.

This record could not have been released in November 1958 as Dooby Dooby Wah was first released as an album track in the US in March 1959 on Ritchie's posthumous debut album. The US release date for Come On Let's Go was September 1958 but was coupled with Framed.

Pye had just lost the valuable Mercury franchise to EMI..looks like they used the same label paper for their new "Pye International" imprint

I picked up 24 x mint 1959 Pye International and Pye Nixa 78's at the weekend. Most of them aren't on here (will be soon!), unfortunately this one wasn't amongst them though!
