Scratchy45 23rd Sep 2021 | | 78 RPMAdelina Patti - Robin Adair (1906) | The recording location is not Grag-y-Nos castle, rather Craig-y-Nos Castle in the Swansea Valley, South Wales - now a wedding venue, among other things rather than a diva's home.

Can find some source to provide the link between the two names if needed, but most bio notes seem to mention both singing on one hand and fiddle./accordion on the other.

Scratchy45 13th Sep 2021 | | 78 RPMFrancis Quinn - Sailor's Hornpipe / Miss McLeod's Reel And Blackberry Blossoms (1926) | The Discography of American Historical Recordings says this was recorded 9th May 1921, and originally issued on Columbia A3566. Pianist given as John Muller.
Please link to Frank Quinn - the Francis Quinn title appears to have been used for at least some instrumental recordings. Would appreciate a date for this - 1926/7?

Scratchy45 11th Sep 2021 | | 78 RPMVernon Dalhart And Adelyn Hood - In The Valley Of Yesterday / The Old Covered Bridge (1934) | I was a little surprised to find no US release for either side until I came across a Google Books search result suggesting that Vernon Dalhart And Adelyn Hood visited London in the early 1930s and recorded there. (Rural rhythm : the story of old-time country music in 78 records by Tony Russell)

Scratchy45 9th Sep 2021 | | 78 RPMMr. Billy Wilson - Tickle Me, Timothy / I Never Heard Father Laugh So Much Before | Pridesale - i don't have means to play something like this at the moment. I understand quite a lot of shellacs sold in the UK pre-1914 were pressed in Germany.
|
Scratchy45 9th Sep 2021 | | 78 RPMFlanagan Brothers - (A) An' Corrowath (Stack Of Wheat); (B) Longdance / The Flanagans Visit Killarney (1928) | Apologies for qualty of images: well-used disc and labels.
|
Scratchy45 9th Sep 2021 | | 78 RPMMr. Billy Wilson - Tickle Me, Timothy / I Never Heard Father Laugh So Much Before | Both songs (can't play them at present) are usually performed by Billy Williams. Might this be a cash-in? I see no aliases for Billy Williams.
|
Scratchy45 9th Sep 2021 | | 78 RPMMr. Billy Wilson - Tickle Me, Timothy / I Never Heard Father Laugh So Much Before | Entered with cat no C2 as seen to right centre of label. Michael Thomas's website with details of UK labels seems to explain why. - this is an earlier series with Midland Gramophone Co.to bottom of label and and Saxony (Kalliope) pressing reference.

Scratchy45 31st Aug 2021 | | 78 RPMDe Groot And Terence Casey - Cavatina / Parted (1929) | Extra scans added - probably irrelevant as I now se they are incorrectly light as the existing scans are incorrectly dark. |
Scratchy45 30th Aug 2021 | | 78 RPMTed Yorke - Florrie The Flapper / Gilbert The Filbert (1914) | Possibly both of these "comic songs" are from the "The Passing Show" of 1914. I don't have a means to safely play something this venerable at the moment, so I can't confirm it.
|
Scratchy45 30th Aug 2021 | | 78 RPMJames Moody - Pennies From Heaven / Cherokee (1951) | Scans added. Apols if images aren't pin-sharp, but I'm cautious with the Esquire shellacs I have after one layer-split and disintegrated at one edge, followed by another losing a chip in similar manner.

Scratchy45 30th Aug 2021 | | 78 RPMLido Modern Orchestra - Lumber Love (1928) | A few "Lido Dance Orchestra" discs on here, but this is the first "Lido Modern Orchestra".

Scratchy45 17th Aug 2021 | | 78 RPMWill Glahé - Barbara-Barbara (Komm Mit Mir Nach Afrika) / Echo Echo (1949) | Many thanks for all that info and the links, xiphophilos. I thought somewhere in 45worlds or 45cat forums there might be something relevant to find. As ever, it's easier when you know what you're searching for... Yes, Holton heath is west of Poole and thus 40 miles West of Southampton, though a rail link from the site would have made transport to Southampton & the docks there considerably more straightforward than by road. I'll see if I can research any further. As I've said - probably not at all relevant to this release but a very interesting tangent nonetheless.
