Whyperion SUBS 2nd Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMThe Platters - The Great Pretender / Only You (And You Alone) (1956) | I'll learn my calendar one day.
It does look like Pye's licensing was behind Decca with London whom if the Platters had been associated with them would probably got both singles out within a few months or less of US issue.

Whyperion SUBS 2nd Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMFrank Luther And Carson Robison - His Old Cornet / Smoky Mountain Bill (1931) | Anyone got a date for this record?
'Comic' sung duet, B side in style of Western (USA) banjo playing. Think it is trying to emulate what may have been popular in 1910s America.
Label style normal 1930s Brunswick , but Bottom of Circle is WARNER-BRUNSWICK LTD / MADE IN ENGLAND
Date looks to be around 1930, issued on US Brunswick as two sides from previous Victor Discs (with Luther as Bud Billings). And Wiki gives dates of 1928-1931 as the main partnership of Carson with Frank Luther.
Their writing partnership is best known perhaps with Luther providing score for Robison's " Barnacle Bill The Sailor." Robison also wrote "The Runaway Train."
"His Old Cornet": Is this the first use of "The Cows Went Dry and the Hens Wouldn't Lay" in a song? It was reprised in a different tempo by Carson Robison for Peter Lind Hayes' 1948 "Life Gets Tee-Jus, Don't It?" (Brunswick 04036).

Whyperion SUBS 1st Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMRuss Morgan - The More We Are Together / So Tired (1948) | Also my copy has what looks like half punched miss punchings of the centre hole ( one on one side , two on the other ! ) A bad day at the plant due to demand.
So Tired has a rather famous muted yet loud trumpet (Trombone ?) riff in it, yet no youtube ?
Found One , though its from the USA Decca , very clear so guess its from a later compliation from any kind of master.
[YouTube Video]
Apparently Recorded on October 11, 1945....and was "dug up" and released during the 1948-'49 AFM musicians strike against the major recording studios...and became a #1 hit (and Morgan's biggest) in April of '49! (Barry I Garuman comment on Youtube

Whyperion SUBS 1st Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMAdrian Rollini - Ah ! But Is It Love / I've Gotta Get Up And Go To Work (1933) | With Vocal Refrain
First on here for Adrian Rollini ?
A Side is a melodic tune with subtle vibraphone, B Side a Stomping Swing Tune with unsubtle Bass Sax.
Only fairly recently appeared on Spotify , rarely seen on CD compliations etc , but the vocal treatment seems different to this copy , was Decca getting the vocals re-recorded over supplied 'backing tracks' from its US suppliers
I think in 1933/1934 Decca seemed to have licensed a substantial number of tracks from the US as numbering goes along at about 2 a week.

Sorry , maybe inappropriate as I note that Vocalist Al Bowlly was killed by the explosion of a parachute mine outside his flat in Duke's Court St James, London during the Blitz in 1941.

Songfacts
Chinese Laundry Blues" was Formby's signature tune, and the first of his "Mr Wu" songs. In the 1974 biography by Alan Randall and Ray Seaton, its genesis is given. Songwriter John Cotterill is said to have visited Formby in his dressing room when the future star was playing in Mother Goose, and picked out a tune on one of his ukuleles. John Cotterill was actually Jack Cottrell, and according to Dennis Taylor, President of the George Formby Society, Formby turned down the song initially, but when he was given the chance to record a song with Jack Hylton- he chose "Chinese Laundry Blues" as the B Side of "Doh Di Oh Doh"; the song was initially called "Chinese Blues", and its hero is a lovesick Chinese laundry worker in Limehouse, a dockside area of London which had a large Chinese population at this time.
But I have also heard words to effect that the lyrics were sent in the post to George , and after release he wrote to Cotterill , Absolutly Full of Inuendo and quite inappropriate- Got Any More ? Probably from Frank Skinner on George Formby (2011 ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJ-7bYFmM18 but might have been a BBC Radio 2 Stuart Macconie tribute.
