 The Mills Brothers were a remarkably elegant and musical organization. The Nagasaki clip is one of the finest examples of their work I've seen. The harmony is tight and swinging and the faux trumpet solo done on the hands would have put many of the era's best horn men to shame. You hear echoes of the early Mills Brothers in countless doo-wop groups well into the 60's, but rarely with the kind of easy class that the Brothers had. Something may have been lost when they moved on from the "look ma, no instruments" novelty approach, but they continued to make wonderful vocal recordings for decades and I still pause to listen whenever I chance to hear them.
