DeweyGill SUBS 30th Jun 2024		I’ve always had a curious relationship with this group. I’ve never been able to jump on board completely, but there is some attractive element in this country novelty group. They occasionally show that they could actually play jazz, and their early sides have a disparate quality of part hot and part corn. They are entertaining certainly, but the slide whistle and slap tongue clarinet keeps them from being taken at all seriously. Hezzie’s washboard is a contraption to marvel, with its accumulated add-ons of bulb horns, tiny cymbals and other noise makers. (it now resides in an Indiana museum). Their early sides are certainly the most engaging musically, this one no exception. This could be accurately described as “hot corn” Okay Hezzie?
