xiphophilos 13th Nov 2023		@historyofcountrymusic: When you compare the Velvet Tone labels (produced by Columbia) with contemporary Columbia Viva-Tonal labels, you see that your labels with the two patent dates Jan. 21, '13 and May 22, '23 are the original ones and must be from the first half of 1928. My copy, with patent date Jan. 21, '13 and patent nr. RE. 16588, is a late 1928-1929 repress. So I have moved your images up. In addition, you can see that the song titles on your copy are set in a smaller, sans serif typeface, 10-point Gothic Condensed No. 1. They were pressed at Columbia's Bridgeport plant, which used this typeface for song titles starting in 1927. My copy, in contrast, has the song titles in a larger serif typeface, 12 point Century Expanded. It was pressed at Columbia's west coast plant in Oakland, see W.B.lbl (=[u=W.B.])’s comments at https://www.45worlds.com/78rpm/record/15304d&rc=322333#322333
