Your copy, historyofcountrymusic, is a repress on a mid-1916-fall 1917 Victor Batwing label with price notice "75c. in U. S. A." but without the word VICTOR on the side of Nipper’s gramophone, cf. M. W. Sherman, Collector's Guide to Victor Records, 2nd ed., page 83.

The Fisk Jubilee Singers' 1909 recording of "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" is the earliest known recording of this wonderful spiritual, which was written around 1885.

In 2002, this recording was also chosen by the National Recording Preservation Board (NRPB) and members of the public as part of the very first group of recordings to be included in the National Recording Registry.

Lyrics:
What kind of shoes you goin’ to wear? / Golden slippers! / What kind of shoes you goin’ to wear? / Golden slippers!

Golden slippers I’m bound to wear, / To outshine the glittering sun. / Oh, yes, yes, yes, my Lord, / I’m going to join the Heavenly choir. / Yes, yes, yes, my Lord, / Soldier of the cross.
