See my general comments on Columbia's 20000 hillbilly series on 20393, including several dates of Columbia ads for new records in the series. There should be a better place somewhere to collect this kind of information.

Thanks for sharing this, Apes Ville. Would you mind sharing your source for this quotation as well?

"Early 1948 CBS decided to follow Decca and started a separate series for their hillbilly music: the 20000 series on the red Columbia label. By the first of May 1948 all 425 hillbilly records, so far issued in the 35000 series (36840 - 38189), were renumbered as 20001 - 20425. The first "new" record in the 20000 series was 20426 of the Johnson Family Singers, issued on May 3th 1948.
Because of the recording ban (no recordings were made between January 1948 - December 1948) all records issued in 1948 (20426 - 20529) had been recorded in 1947 or earlier. Columbia 20530, issued on January 10th, 1949, had songs Ted Daffan recorded on December 27, 1948. Shortly after that date, when tastes changed, Satherley started recording new artists like Jimmy Dickens and George Morgan. Within some years the Columbia 20000 series would have a roster with young promising artists like Marty Robbins, Carl Smith, Lefty Frizzell and numerous others.
Due to changes related to rock 'n' roll the 20000 series was discontinued by the end of October 1956."
