KeithS SUBS 15th Sep 2021		Nat Cohn owned Modern Music Sales in New York and was distributing records, coin machines, and toys and was constantly buying and selling his companies. I'd guess that around this time the two company names were noticed to conflict. Cashbox also carried an earlier ad September 8, 1947 as just Modern.



xiphophilos 15th Sep 2021		Thanks for this great piece of evidence, Keith! So by November 1947, the name had definitely changed. When I look at our releases, I think it may even have been two months earlier, September 1947.

xiphophilos 14th Sep 2021		That's what the label bio says right now. Based on what we currently have in the database, though, I wouldn't be surprised if the name change came a bit earlier, in Fall 1947. In any case, thanks for tracking down an image of the original May 1947 label!



Apes Ville 14th Sep 2021		Should be Modern Music for 1947. The Modern labels are part of a bulk re-issue of the "Modern Music" 78's from 1948 when the label name changed to Modern. Anything on plain Modern was issued from 1948 on.
