CO 29177-1 Taking A Chance On Love (Vernon Duke, John Latouche, Ted Fetter, arr. Fletcher Henderson)
CO 29178-2 Cabin In The Sky (Vernon Duke, John Latouche)
Recorded New York City, November 29, 1940.
The record was reissued in March 1943, when the 1940 Broadway musical "Cabin in the Sky" was turned into a movie: Billboard, Apr. 17, 1943, page 20: On the Records.
A side label (original Dec. 1940 label with "Trade Mark" under the CBS logo and three lines of patent text under COLUMBIA, listing patent 1625705 and RE 16588, cf. M. Sherman & K. Nauck, "Note the Notes," page 9).
Note that label does indeed refer to the musical "Cabin in the Sky" by title.
It ain't just the "Cabin In The Sky" reference; the fine print below the 'COLUMBIA' atop the spindle hole as seen on {Images #435320 & 435319} was in effect from 1942 to 1945. Likewise, the "For perfect tone use Columbia Needles" blurb at left was only on labels from early 1942 to April 1951. I have an actual late 1940 copy of this - but at this point am in no position to scan the labels to put on here.
I understand that MGM released "Cabin in the Sky" in 1943. According to the March 27, 1943 issue of Billboard, Columbia reissued "Taking a Chance on Love" backed by "Cabin in the Sky". Wouldn't this then be a reissue? Does anybody have a copy that doesn't reference the movie?
Merged two identical entries and flipped sides (and images) of this remaining entry according to matrix numbers and chart success, see earlier comments.
"Taking A Chance On Love" also made it to #10 on Billboard's Harlem Hit Parade (soon to become the Race Records charts and then the R&B charts), for the week ending June 24, 1943.
