Leaving Chicago after the Frank Teschmaker incident in March of 1932, Wild Bill found an accepting city In Milwaukee for the next decade. Around 1943, he was lured to NYC by Gene Schroeder, a Madison native who had been jamming around Milwaukee with Bill, but had left for NYC a bit earlier.
Handbill for a local engagement in 1933. Five miles out in the sticks, Gesell’s Grove was a good place during prohibition to get your groove on. Word has it the local Sheriff was on the take.
