Shame On You

and here's a "soundie" from the same year, played by Spade Cooley and “His Western Dance Gang”, and featuring the singer “Patsy” McMahon:

All Spade Cooley records assembled under his name, full credits “Spade Cooley And His Orchestra” and “Spade Cooley (King Of Western Swing) And His Band” moved to the notes as we generally do it here for 'nameless' accompaniments like orchestras and choruses.

“Shame On You”, Spade Cooley’s first record, was his only #1 country hit and one of only a handful of chart hits he had. He was a huge act in the West, but in his best time in the 1940s he was mostly prevented from recording due to the two recording bans. Anyway, “Shame On You” was a big seller, staying in Billboard magazine’s C&W charts (then “Most-Played Juke Box Folk Records”) for 31 weeks. “A Pair Of Broken Hearts” was also listed there, at #8.

Cooley’s own composition “Shame On You” was also very successfully covered. Red Foley with Lawrence Welk And His Orchestra on Decca entered the C&W charts in Sep 1945 when Cooley’s original was still listed there, eventually peaking at #1 as well. Bill Boyd and His Cowboy Ramblers’ version on Bluebird peaked at #4 in Oct 1945.
