The mx for "Ebb tide" is YB9861. The mx for "If I Could Make You Mine" is YB9854.

The entered composer credits (Maxwall, Sigmuad) were definitely typos. There are at least two different labels of the 78rpm issue (one has With Orch. Cond. by Richard Hayman, as in the notes, another one reads With Orchestra Conducted by Richard Hayman), but both spell the writers of "Ebb Tide" as Maxwell-Sigmund, which is still incorrect as far as Carl Sigman is concerned.

The release year was definitely 1953 (month of September, as presumed by xiphophilos), also confirmed by the fact that Mercury's 70,000 series didn't start before late 1952. In addition, in contrast to the original submission and to the matrix numbers order, "Ebb Tide" was the apparent A-side of the record, see full-page Mercury ad now uploaded by me.

N.B. Though not visible for the public, this is one of many records on the database that was not crosschecked and moderated before (now it is).

Release date 1950 can't be true, considering that the song "Ebb Tide" was only published in 1953.

Earliest mention of the record that I can find is in a Billboard ad from Sep. 26, 1953, on p. 37.

As long as Mercury sent his royalty checks to the right address, Carl Sigman probably didn't care. ;-)

Neither will have Robert Maxwell, whom this record apparently lists as Maxwall. Unless these are all typos introduced by Groovy. The 45 rpm version, at least, spells the composers' names Sigmund and Maxwell: http://www.45cat.com/record/70216x45.

Carl Sigman must have thoroughly disliked Mercury records. They never seem to get his name right. The Sigmuad shown as co-composer of Ebb Tide is, of course, Carl, or should have been.
