Notes

Recorded Dec. 16, 1936 as King Edward stepped down from the throne after a scandalous affair and marriage proposal to a twice divorced American woman, Wallis Simpson, who was considered by the Prime Ministers unworthy of the title of Queen Consort. This also conflicted with the rules of The Church Of England. After his abdication, Edward did marry Wallis Simpson.

You won't find a British one because they wouldn't let HMV record the speech.

Interesting that this speech was released in the United States as well, not just in the United Kingdom. But then Edward resigned to marry an American, of course, so there would be some interest in his speech in the former Colonies. In fact, the interest on this side of the pond was feverish. The database currently has a plethora of American releases of this speech, and if you look around, you can find even more American releases. In contrast, it's near-impossible to find a British copy of this radio broadcast.

I wonder if it was from this ish' that a snippet of this speech was included in Edward R. Murrow's I Can Hear It Now.
