Harlem 1000 & 1001 were recorded & released in 1945 (see Ebony, Chicago, Southern, and Harlem: The Mayo Williams Indies). Gart, ARLD, gives release date as May 1946, but this concerns the first ad in Billboard, by the Manor label, listing these 2 Harlem records in "Our back catalogue". - (Release date should be changed)

The records in this list are 2 unrelated companies. [Have now split the two Harlem labels into Harlem and Harlem Records. Mod.]

This NY label (also 1001) belonged to Mayo Williams and date from 1945, He was previously Decca's A&R man for Blues and R&B and even earlier performed in the same role for Paramount.

These are the first two on the label an he also ran the Southern & Chicago labels and sold sides to King and Gotham among others. Harlem was soon discontinued until being restarted upon his moving to Chicago in around 1951. He spasmodically issued Harlem records up into the 70s.

He was the first black record producer and was very busy in the 30s. The risqué "Round The Clock Blues" was very popular at this time and there are well over 10 versions, being covered by many labels including this unknown.
