401108 - Square Dance, instrumental with call by Hutchison - recorded New York, NY, September 10, 1928.
401113 - Guitar Solo - recorded New York, NY, September 11, 1928.
A side runout: Ⓦ401108A A-1
B side runout: Ⓦ401113B A-3
The Talking Machine World, December 15, 1928, page 117: List for December 5.
That helps partially. I had expected a B-3 on the B take side, but that's clearly not how the stamper numbers work. The letters in them don't seem to refer to the take letters after all.
On my copy's "Hutchison's Rag" side, assuming that the Ⓦ401113B is at 6 o'clock position, then A-3 is stamped at the 12 o'clock position, and A-1 is similarly positioned on the "Wild Hogs" side. Does this help?
I'm trying to understand OKeh's runout and matrix number system.
The Discogs example lists:
Side A runout: Ⓦ401108A A-5
Side B runout:: Ⓦ401113B B-6
So on that record, take A has a stamper number beginning with A: A-5; take B, one beginning with B, namely B-6.
For your copy, annaloog, that seems to hold true only for the A side:
Ⓦ401108A A-1,
whereas the B side's stamper number, even though it is a B take, starts with A: A-3. Is that correct?
Thanks, Mike ... my web search results don't always turn up Talking Machine World. I have a copy of Tony Russell's Country Music Records 1921-1942, which is good for recording session dates, but not so good for record release dates ... date amended to Dec 1928.
