 Ow! I bit myself. It can get dangerous speaking tongue-in-cheek around here.

Seriously, though, I daresay that even in 1935 there were corners of the musical industry in Britain inhabited by people who neither knew or wanted to know who Bix Beiderbecke was. I wouldn't have thought that one of them would be the one responsible for the New Rhythm Series, but as you say, the error suggests nearly complete ignorance of the subject matter. They must have had some fairly knowledgeable guidance when they went to select the music for inclusion, though. They didn't do a bad job of that.

 In 1935? That's hard to believe. Parlophone's type setter must just have been completely ignorant of jazz. This typo wasn't a single aberration for him, either, cf. https://www.45worlds.com/78rpm/record/r1838. In 1937, they finally got the spelling right.

 Parlophone left the final "e' off of Bix Beiderbecke's last name. I guess he wasn't sufficiently famous yet then.
