Book
Francesca Simon - Horrid Henry Meets The Queen (2004)
True but the back cover shows it was also on sale in Canada - hence it's international.

Pretty sure the publisher should be Sphere here?

Paul Trynka - Starman (2012)
You're welcome! The album they put put is massively underrated I think.

Book
Paul Trynka - Starman (2012)
As a point of interest, author Paul Trynka was also the frontman of Hull band Nyam Nyam.

Book
Nick Swift - The Housemartins (1988)
Delighted to get hold of a copy of this yesterday at Hull Record Fair. Long out of print, this doesn't come up for sale very often so I'm chuffed to have bagged a copy at last.

Johnny Marr - Set The Boy Free (2016)
Lol :-)

Surprised I'm the only one to click I Own on this so far, given Santa's just been! (I was surprised it wasn't already on when I added it).

Book
Austin Collings - Renegade (2009)
Finished reading this last night (a Xmas prezzie from my young lady - extra special cos we met when we were both in a leftfield poetry/writing group called Renegade Writers...nice touch I thought).

It's great. Not really a biography, more a stream-of-consciousness ramble through Smith's life and work. It's what you'd expect, really! Naturally he doesn't give a shit who he offends (Marc Riley gets a savaging, and he blasts a number of ex-Fall members in the first two pages alone, one of whom he calls "daft c***", and that's in the first chapter) but it's not just crazed vitriol or one long grudge (though he has plenty of those) - there are some fascinating insights into Smith's songwriting processes and musical tastes, and some bizarre asides (such as a sudden and unexpected summary of his favourite Orson Welles films). Technically, it's all over the place, but it's a stonking read all the same... and you can't help but love the mad bastard. Recommended.

Incidentally in the inner page, the book is credited to "Austin Collings with Mark E. Smith" and Smith mentions a ghost writer in the text (this really isn't an ordinary biography) so I've given Austin chief billing, even though he's not on the cover.

Mark Ellen - Rock Stars Stole My Life (2014)
Another recent chazza catch. Fantastic book, really insightful, well written, and frequently very funny.

"There are two types of people... those who like Van Morrison, and those who've met him..."

Book
Camellia Panjabi - 50 Great Curries Of India (2004)
Excellent book - authentic recipes (quite challenging cooking in places though - I haven't actually tried to recreate one yet), with explanations of each one including which part of India they originate from, the history of the recipes and ingredients, and loads of information about spices, Indian bread, accompaniments and so on. Got mine for 75p from the chazza - bargain!

A Christmas present from my young lady. Can't wait to get stuck into this one.

Piccolo is quite correct - thanks.

Book
Graham Jones - Strange Requests And Comic Tales From Record Shops (2013)
The class number looks a bit iffy to me (I took it from OCLC) but hey ho.

Book
Minecraft: Final Play - Amazon.co.uk (2013)
I assume this is some sort of print on demand thing - my lad acquired it from somewhere or other (possibly a gift). There's no author details.

It's on Amazon here.

Book
John Markham - Streets Of Hull: A History Of Their Names (1987)
Sadly the author, a well known local historian (who also ran the Highgate publishing company behind this and many other books) passed away earlier this year - Hull Daily Mail obituary.

Book
Ann Scanlon - The Pogues (1988)
As a Pogues completist, I'm chuffed to bits to have finally bagged a copy of this cheap off Ebay - it stinks of fag smoke but hey ho, you can't have everything (and I'm sure Shane would approve).

Out of print for years, this is a legendary book among the Pogues fanbase and I look forward to reading it.

Book
Enid Blyton - The Enchanted Wood (2012)
No barcode - I think this may be part of a boxset - I'll check the bookshelf in the kids room, they do have a boxset and I think this may have gotten separated from it.

Enid Blyton - Mr Icy-Cold And Other Stories (1993)
I've entered the title as its written in the official publication details inside front - the actual cover is printed slightly differently.

Book
James Martin - The Saturday Kitchen Cookbook (2007)
James Martin isn't the "author" as such but the book is credited as "WITH James Martin" (and he's also got the byline on the introduction) so it's near enough I guess, and is better than Various Authors or [none].

Book
Terry Deary - Horrible Histories (2013)
I've dipped into a few (my son has loads of them, to be added here in due course) and they are genuinely informative no matter how old you may be! We also went to one of the theatre productions a few years ago (with the lad I hasten to add) and it was excellent... if a bit gross lol.

Book
Weird And Gilly - Mick Ronson (2009)
I didn't enter the author names in the usual manner (i.e. separately) as it would have looked odd, and as they are clearly one off pseudonyms they can stand alone, as it were (they will recur when someone adds the first edition only).

I should say thanks to John Bird of the Mick Ronson fan club who kindly gave me a copy of this. Cheers John.

Book
Sean Mayes - Life On Tour With Bowie (2016)
Previously issued as "Life On Tour With David Bowie: We Can Be Heroes". Author Sean Mayes toured with Bowie in 1978 on piano (the tour is captured on the "Stage" album). Mayes passed away from AIDS in 1995 - this book, based on his tour diary, was released posthumously, and has now been reissued following Bowie's death.

Book
Mark Ward - The Really Useful Garden Bird Handbook (2010)
A great little book that I picked up at Pets At Home last weekend while spending far too much money on the various bird seed type things that our feathered friends seem to demolish by the bucketload. Only a slender book (80 pages) but a useful and informative read.

Book
Peter Tremayne - The Ants (1980)
Oh my, I've actually read this! Just saw the cover and thought, "I used to have that" - read it as a young lad (I was a bit ahead of my years in terms of books) - can't remember a thing about it, mind. I assume it's as dreadful as it looks :-).

Interesting. (Twas me added the other one). Wonder what's going on here then?

Great book!

Book
James Joyce - Finnegans Wake
I had a similar experience when I attempted to read "The Dubliners" a few years back - gave up, it just wasn't happening...

Book
Fyodor Dostoevsky - Crime And Punishment
One of my favourite ever reads. Simply stunning. Not just the story (which is superb) but for me it's the descriptive writing, you can almost smell the setting, the surroundings, the dirt and the squalor. Hugely important, and influential, fiction. Without it so many other novels simply could not exist (American Psycho owes a huge debt to Dostoevsky for starters).

10/10 all day long.
