Undated 6th printing of January 1967 Bantam first edition. Adaptations of episodes from Star Trek's first season in short story format. Notable for being based upon unbroadcast versions of the scripts, and therefore featuring story details not in the original. First in a series of books by Blish (and later J. A. Lawrence) that would adapt every episode of the original series. This was also the first published Star Trek literature aimed at adult readers, beginning a line of books that continues in the 2020s.

Later editions of this book carry the title Star Trek 1.

136 pages. Front cover artwork depicts William Shatner as James T. Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as Spock, and is taken from NBC's pre-broadcast promotional artwork for the series.
