| Magic Marmalade 2nd Apr 2020 | Right, given this a first edit, if someone can check my homework for me. However... (Oh Oh!) I have spotted two anomalies!: 1. The target disc itself only has the EKS cat# on it (but we trust that the disc came in the artwork provided by fixbutte, 2. On the disc and other artwork that I sent over to the other entry, and which matches kab's, there is a discrepancy between the cat on the spines and on the lower back right of the cover.: Spine reads: 242 080, but the back cover gives this original cat: 042 080 (cut and paste artwork slipping past the proof reader type person perhaps?:) ((Not entirely sure this should be U.S either, come to think of it)) | |
| gregs45s SUBS 1st Apr 2020 | Yep MM, spotted it, ( i left a note...at bottom;) All Syd Vliet's scans can be moved to that entry, just add the secondary Cat.No,so it reads ...242 080 / EKS 75007-2, and you have to decide between Syd's rear tray artwork or kab2112's (Syd's image 336439) And amend the Cat.No. on this US release so it reads.... EKS 75007-2 / 042 080.... and change country from International to USA (Note the 1984 date can be removed from the European entry until a date is known) | |

(I just don't want to do anything too rashly and only end up muddying the waters further with too many replicated /redundant entries) | |
| Magic Marmalade 31st Mar 2020 | Let me see... ...I have this one, Eagles - Hotel California, (Big thrill finding that, especially as it was not long after learning about targets, and resolving to find at least one, or find out just how hard they are to find in the wild) Prince - Purple rain Phil Collins - No Jacket Required (2 Copies of) - Both of these last two are silver discs with black targets, which are incredibly easy to find, and a good entry point into the world of targets Al Jerreau - High Crime Howard Jones - Human's Lib Phil Collins - Face Value All of which are teal coloured face with red target designs (All found weeks apart in the same shop oddly). Overall they are pretty scarce indeed, but as this represents two years of conscious looking, they do occasionally turn up. Also, have an early blue face Genesis, One Philips Blue Face, but the two kinds I am yet to find, because they incredibly rare (and therefore valuable) are a Polydor Red Face, and the holy grail in CD collecting: A Mercury Green Arrow disc (preferably by Rush: Moving Pictures - take a look for the value of that one if you want a shock! :) I mainly get hooked on collecting different things because I stumble across something of a kind, then find, quite automatically that I've begun actively looking for them - "Ah nuts, guess I'm collecting that now am I?!!!). The hunt is the thing. And in the absence of a decent bit of vinyl on any given day, they make a nice fall back. | |

| Magic Marmalade 31st Mar 2020 | I'll get to this one perhaps tomorrow chaps, as I have got s few other bits to get to in other worlds (I am, after all, an interdimensional being :) ...but it will be on my "to do" list. The thing about this / these target discs (and the silver stock disc image), is that, according both to Discogs, and those I've seen on ebay, is that the cover art that the silver stock came in can also be found with a target disc in it - that the back cover housing one can be green or the grey, and the disc within can be either black text or white... (maybe this is the difference between a "Made for U.S.A", and a "Made for Europe" ?) So I'd have to copy one (or both) of the covers over to any new entry, and leave a set of both here... only moving the disc image. And the other thing is that I had been trying to find a way to distinguish between cases that are more likely to have a target in them (any artist or title) and those that don't, so I can zero in on them from the spines in stores etc. And What I can say about any I have found here in Europe at least, is that they all have the two line (additional) cat numbers on the spines, Whether that's the same with a "made for U.S.A" Target, I do not know. Something to investigate I suppose. | |

| Lee Wrecker 30th Mar 2020 | Eeks! what happened to the EKS that precedes the numbers in the US cat#? In the comments fixbutte correctly lists the US cat# as EKS 75007-2 but we have it listed as 75007-2. The EU disc pictured has the cat# 242 080 on the disc and spine but is listed as 042 080 on all the inlays pictured here. Therefore, the EU cat# 242 080 does not appear on any US releases at all and for that reason we should consider splitting the EU and US versions. This was early days in CD manufacture and what we have here is a CD made at the same pressing plant in West Germany but made specifically for two different markets. In the US the cat# EKS 75007-2 was used up to 1989 for two subsequent releases of this CD and they when they appear should be added here. The EU CD cat# 242 080 was issued once in 1984 before the cat# was changed to 975 007-2 in 1988. The cuffs and collars don't match here for this CD to be listed as international and I think we should split them into separate EU and US listings. What do others think? | |

Strong's Great Rock Discography says, but in Oct 1984, regardless the use of the new Elektra label design. Discs were made for WEA in the first CD pressing plant in the world in Hannover, West Germany, owned by PolyGram Records. Early discs had a "target" label with only the US catalogue number (EKS 75007-2) and the text "Made in West Germany by PolyGram" printed along the perimeter at the bottom, whereas both the US and European cat# were on the package. I have added an example of a disc and the back cover of such an early issue. | |
