Most likely a bootleg CD version of the original cassette version, which was released as part of a Heineken sales promotion in 1986, but without the agreement of The Beatles' company Apple, and so the promotion was swiftly terminated.
The matrix number details on the inner part of the CD read <SMCD151>GDA30A SA.

| | Ok. I have updated the Notes and deleted the date as we really don't know which year this CD was produced. |

| | If the consensus is that this is a bootleg, then can we remove the year of release? At present it is listed prior to the first official EMI releases of Please Please Me etc, which must be wrong. |

| | Thanks re Occam's razor.
I too bought the cans at the time and have the cassette.
This entry and CD are mine. I only bought the CD quite recently over the internet. As I said below, if it is a bootleg, it is of a very high quality. |

| | yeah definately a bootleg, this was only released on cassette, if you look at the wording on the beer can image added to the cassette version, linked in the notes section, there is no mention of a CD release on a "Unique Cassette".
Also like jordansongs I don't know myself about the release, but i asked my dad about this and he too bought the beers for the cassette and said that there wasn't an option of which format you wanted when you sent off for the album , if there had been a cd he would've had that. |

| | If Occam's Razor were applied, I think it would lead to the opposite conclusion. Surely a company which has already issued a cassette edition would have a much easier task of producing these realistic CDs, than some previously uninvolved third party?
That said, I do believe it's a boot! |

| | I cannot believe that this was actually released in 1986, i.e. was the first Beatles CD released. I don't really know what I am talking about. But I'd say this is a well produced bootleg made much much later. Occam's razor. |

| | The matrix number details on the inner part of the CD read <SMCD151>GDA30A SA.
The wording on the back cover states:
All rights of the copyright owner reserved. It is ILLEGAL to copy this recording.
The same wording is found on the cassette version, except ILLEGAL is underlined on the cassette version. |

| | What would be interesting is to see if any other CDs exist in this catalog number sequence.
if there are, check the CD matrices. Quite often, the catalog numbers appear somewhere.
The CD matrix number doesn't include that here. I will say, if it is a bootleg.. and I think it is, they did a nice job. I read the link info on the tape and clearly though that was a legit release... it wasn't approved and the promotion must have been quickly eliminated, making the tape rare and collectable. |

| | I was too young to (legally) drink at the time, but I remember my older brother (both a Beatles fan and a committed drinker) getting through the requisite amount of beer in order to get the cassette. I know he would happily have put in the extra effort if there was a CD version on offer as well. |

| | I would have said it was a bootleg of the original Cassette version.
Discogs lists it as an unoffical copy. I know they aren't the final word on the bootleg vs offical argument but they're a good start. |

| | Looking at the entry for the cassette edition, the marketing on the cans makes no mention of a CD version. It was definitely released in 1986 and pre-dated the official Beatles CD releases so there would certainly have been an incentive for bootleggers to produce a CD version of the cassette. |

| | if it's legitimate, it's amazing how a promotion could predate all the hype to release The Beatles internationally on CD. That is, their actual EMI studio recordings OR maybe the release year is incorrect. |
