I always look for these tell tale signs when looking for first / early press CDs:
Obviously, no barcode places it within a year or so of the first compact discs being released, but even before that, on the shelf, the prefix: cdcbs is always a good indicator (although not always, it's a Japan press.
But look at the inner ring of the cd for matrix on the first disc image here, and you see the didp number, the 1a1 number, signifying a first press, and the little string of crosses ( sometimes other tiny scratchy symbols), other than the actual Japan only originals, these are the first gen after those for the wider world.
If you are so inclined oldmod, take the car apart too and you might find either / or a cat number printed on the reverse of the back cover/ inlay, and if it's the original case too, possibly a patent pending mark on the underside of the grey plastic cd tray.

Before you posted your comment I was checking this out and also going to suggest the year change but got a bit suspicious when I couldn't actually find a 1985 release anywhere. So I just looked up the release date and it all made sense. Then I bounced back to this page and saw your comment. Snap. Good to see you're still banging away and putting the worlds right.

I agree with gregs45s in that the CD OldMod67 has is the original release. The album, however, was released in January 1986 so if the date is amended perhaps add the month. The single of Manic Monday was released on Dec. 23rd 1985 and the album followed the next month. New year releases can be tricky.

Hi, it looks like you have the first pressing of this album (on CD) from 1985, at least, have a look at
this one and see if it matches yours.
Early CD's were quite often pressed in Japan for the European and USA markets, so, here, a Japanese made Disc has been paired with the Dutch artwork.
With regard to the CB number, these are the French retail price codes used in Europe (not used in the UK i don't think) at the point of sale (till) to identify which distributer to pay ,or, if not at the till individually, then presumably by bulk, i.e, 100 CB 801 albums by someone in the office of the retailer? (it would be great if someone in the Distribution business could let us know).
"CB" does indeed stand for CBS i think, just as "POL" stands for Polydor. I have seen code number changes quite often and i think it's just an adminstritive thing?.
I think, as your copy matches both Label and Cat No./no barcode exactly, it could be entered here on this page as well, but perhaps indicating your scans with "1985 First issue" (i shall put in a request to change the date to 1985), but, does the Disc image shown here 2265804 match yours? as, this one also has Manufactured by CBS/SONY in Japan around the rim text, or if it differs in any way, perhaps you can add a scan and maybe one of the rear tray art showing the different code CB 801.

I've not entered my copy yet as I'm a bit puzzled as to origin. It is almost the same as above, but subtle differences:
Although it states 'Made in Holland ' on the back cover, the disc states 'Made in Japan's on the outer ring note.
No barcode and catalogue number is the same, but rear cover (top left) under the cat.no, the boxed CB 821 on my copy reads CB 801. If CB stands for CBS product, why the number change?
Advice welcome.
