Juke Jules SUBS 4th Nov 2018		CD Album Various Artists - Beat Boom Classics (1995)	Perfectly acceptable versions of the 60s hits we all know and love - just don't expect authentic originals. Ideal to take to a party, you wouldn't want to be toting your collectors' vinyl around. See the Mike Pender's Searchers discography to find many more such 'hits' compilations on many labels. The Ivy League were never a performance band, they were three session singers with uncredited session musicians, so a touring band was formed at the time using the name. Maybe we should add a disambiguation term to this version of the group. I enjoyed three of the tracks to the same extent I enjoy the originals: Funny How Love Can Be, Good Times, Goodbye My Love

Juke Jules SUBS 15th Sep 2018		CD Album James Bay - Electric Light (2018)	Emotionally-charged music, contrasting Bay's empassioned singing of his powerful lyrics, with his angry guitar outbursts, the band's restrained playing and detailed synth ornamentations, and the rich production. Wild Love is much my favourite track, not least because of the gorgeous Girlie BGVs. I have no idea of their identities, but they seem to be credited in the notes as Capital Children's Choir. Maybe that's the girls performing in this lip-sync video..? [YouTube Video]

Juke Jules SUBS 22nd Mar 2018		CD Album Chordial Exchange - I Won't Send Roses (1998)	The quartet singers are well known in the region. At the rear is Dave Roberts (Lead), Tom Percy (Bass) is on the right, Chris Barnes (Tenor) is on the left, and Tony Riley (Bari) is in front. Tom Percy has since moved to Australia and is believed to be no longer singing Barbershop. Track 11 was recorded live at the Championship competition. This was a fitting choice for the competition piece, with luscious harmonies and a climactic ending which were very much 'of their time'. Since then, competition has moved to focus more on speed and dexterity, with more complex harmonies. The lyrics manage to include a reference to the opera "Pagliacci", as does "Give Me A Barbershop Song" by Roy Dorson.
