mister_tmg ● 19th Jan 2017		CD Album Petula Clark - Downtown: The Collection (2011)	The first track doesn't sound like proper mono to me, maybe it hasn't been balanced properly. The outtake of "Yesterday" is the only reason to buy this CD for collectors of her music.

I think I bought this in Sainsbury's supermarket as I was curious to hear whether the early 1950s tracks sounded any better than previous issues. They didn't, so I later sold it. Really odd to combine digital 80s re-recordings of 60s tracks with old crackly 78s from the early 50s. They haven't even separated the tracks into two groupings, so it jumps from one era and type of recording to another. I don't think I ever did listen to the whole thing together though.

It's odd the sleevenotes say they couldn't trace the copyright holder, surely CBS now equals Sony so they own this material? Isn't that who licensed the collection of Embassy Beatles covers? Pink n Black no longer have a website at that link, but the CDs are relatively easy to find and buy online. I've just received this one. My guess is that if Sony (or whoever) actually cared, they'd have stopped these being sold by now.

Are you able to tell me what the sound quality on Track 15, Disc 2: Terry Thomas - Lay Down Your Arms? Does it sound like it's from a master tape or the original 78/45? I'm wondering if they licensed the track, or did a Public Domain dub. It hasn't been on any other CD.

My copy was secondhand but it had only been taken out of the shrink wrap so they could get the MP3 tracks (according to the seller description). It was like new.
