CD Album
The Beatles - Love Me Do (2001)
The covers of the European issue are exactly the same, except fuzzier by one generation of copying. The discs say (c) 2000, but the disc was held back and issued in 2001, as it says on the back cover.

Bloodrock - Bloodrock 2 (2000)
One day in early 1971 I thought I should see what else was on the radio besides the middle-of-the-road station my parents listened to. So I turned the dial and it came to rest on "D.O.A." with its sirens wailing and funereal organ. OMG, the guy describes dying in a plane crash! I had to hear the whole song, and I listened to that station until they played it again.

A few years later, I worked at that radio station.

The Peppermint Trolley Company - Beautiful Sun (2009)
I've added the rest of the booklet scans and a new scan of the disc - mine says "Side 1" at three o'clock whereas the other disc doesn't.

Track 6 is mistitled. It should be "Kozmic Blues."

Lighthouse - The Best Of Lighthouse-Sunny Days Again (1998)
This CD was first issued in Canada 1989 on Denon CAN-9002. There was a limited edition CD pressing for guests of the Art Gallery of Ontario's "Picture The '70s" Gala, April 19, 1997, on Breaking Records CAN-1820.

The tracks are so heavily remixed, they don't sound much like the records at all. They emphasized the string section and toned down the rock elements.

The Beatles - Leaning On A Lamppost (1996)
The back cover claims the song "Leaning On A Lamp Post" is Traditional, but it was composed by Noel Gay and first recorded by George Formby in 1937.

The Guess Who - Liberty (1994)
About this album, the AllMusic Guide said, "It only takes one audition of 'Liberty' to render a guilty verdict on charges of willful and grievous desecration of rock legendry."

The Guess Who - Shakin' All Over/Hey Ho/It's Time (2003)
Track 3, "Where Have You Been (All My Life)" was written by Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil. There was a big flap about this recording when The Guess Who submitted it to Scepter under the title of "'Til We Kissed." They asked who the composer was. Allan said it was him. They pressed him on it, and then he said it was somebody named Gunter, published by Johnny Kidd's London publisher. Scepter got to the bottom of it, and discovered it to have been written by Mann/Weil and first recorded by Arthur Alexander. Scepter was so mad at Chad Allan that they left this song off their album and substituted it with a song by another group, and passed on their option to release The Expressions' next single. This is the first time I've seen it credited to Gunter and Acuff. Both are wrong.

By the way, all of the tracks on this CD are horribly gain boosted and brickwall limited. Just a solid waveform from start to finish, with no dynamics.

On the "Hey Ho" album, track B4 is "Inside Out" - this is missing from the CD.

The Guess Who - Let's Go (2005)
The last five tracks are from the LP that The Guess Who split with The Staccatos, "A Wild Pair." After so many years, they are available in digital form. But, and there's always a but, on the original album these songs are in wide stereo with a generous dynamic range. On this CD, the tracks have been remixed to nearly mono. For example, the drums are in the center now instead of on the right. The instruments have been panned closer to the center. And the tracks have been subjected to an egregious amount of compression. Not brickwalled, but compressed enough to suck most of the dynamic range out of the recordings. They really do sound much better on the vinyl. About the digitally synthesized stereo image that was made from the mono recordings of the "Let's Go" material, it's not ugly, but it doesn't sound realistic. At least it's in phase.

The Cars - There's No Ersatz (1991)
According to the official Cars Concert History, the only gig they played in 1985 was at Live Aid. The nearest time to that when they played Texas was September 10, 1984 in Dallas. They had not played Houston since Feb 23, 1982. They would not play Texas again until a gig in Dallas on October 16, 1987.

Nazz / Woody's Truck Stop - Nazz From Philadelphia / Woody's Truck Stop 1966 Demos (2001)
I don't know how I missed this for 20 years, but the front cover of my copy, which I bought from a store in Japan, is autographed by Robert "Stewkey" Antoni, keyboardist and singer for Nazz. I never saw it until tonight. It's written in blue magic marker.

Has anyone noticed that the inlay is posted upside down? Can anything be done about that by a moderator from the original scan uploaded by Careys without compromising the resolution of the image?

A Foot In Coldwater - The Best Of A Foot In Coldwater
I have just downloaded this album from the Unidisc website, in WAV-HD format (44.1 KHz, 24-bit). It came with no artwork or catalogue number, but the tracks are identical to the CD, and cost half the price. It is also available in 320 kbps mp3, FLAC, and .wav formats at CD resolution (44.1 KHz, 16-bit).

Paul McCartney - Rude Studio Demos (1989)
This is one of the best-ever McCartney bootlegs. The only problem with it is that the tape playbacks into the computer were massively out of phase, and running at the wrong speed. There is a version out there that corrects these anomalies. Fixed, they sound better than when some of these tracks were used as bonus material on the "Tug Of War" and "Pipes Of Peace" Archive Collection CDs. On those discs, the top end has been chopped off and the rest is noise-reduced to death. "Hear Me Lover" has always been identified by its first three words, as it wasn't obvious what the title was. When finally released, it was called "Something That Never Happened." It might have done well as a single.

George Martin told Paul to scrap some of these songs. "Seems Like Old Times" could have been a single, too, and I give Paul top marks for remembering where all the chord changes are in "Give Us A Chord, Roy."
