Dr Doom SUBS 2nd Jun 2015		Cinema The Devil's Rain (1975) (1975)	Rated 6/10 It's been a long time since I watched this but I seem to recall that although fun, it's actually pretty duff and not very scary. Despite using a real life Satanist in Anton LaVey it all seems a bit silly. Dr Doom SUBS 28th May 2015		Cinema Sex Lives Of The Potato Men (2004) (2004)	Rated 1/10 One of the worst films I've ever seen. It seems strangely old fashioned even for 2004 what with sexist running jokes about female genitalia and 'fish paste' etc. (Great way to alienate at least half your audience in the first 5 minutes) Johnny Vegas and Mackenzie Crook are fine television comedy actors and it's almost painful watching them try their best to induce some life into this comic corpse of a film. 2 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?

Dr Doom SUBS 26th May 2015		Cinema Hamnstad (Port of Call) (1948) (1948)	I can see that choosing English as the primary language for the website may upset some of our members but in this case it's really important that an English language title is always entered (as an additonal title if the film originates from a non-English speaking territory) so that we can auto-link any DVD/Blu-ray releases to their matching film. At some stage we really hope to make all the websites a bit more friendly and usable to non-English speakers but the bottom line is that 45cat and 45worlds were started by two Scotsmen with a not entirely useful second language of Swedish!

I'm really squeamish with this kind of thing. I can just about cope with the odd nasty scene in a horror but if a film is based around slow torture scenes then it's a 'No Thanks' from me.

Dr Doom SUBS 13th May 2015		Cinema Lifeforce (1985) (1985)	Rated 6/10 As the Blu-ray extras for this reveal I am not alone in finding this film hugely enjoyable whilst at the same time thinking it's kind of not very good! In terms of plot, genre and mood it's all over the place. Is it Science Fiction? Oh no wait it's a vampire film, Whoops now it's a Zombie film etc. etc. The acting is similarly erratic and main characters seem to vanish from the story for no apparent reason. This all sounds very negative but as I said at the beginning - it's fun! Add to the mix the incredibly beautiful Mathilda May creeping around stark naked and it's a great way to waste a couple hours. You will learn NOTHING but if you like horror, science fiction, vampires or B-movies then I'm sure you'll be glad you gave it a go. 3 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?
Dr Doom SUBS 13th May 2015		Cinema Deux Jours, Une Nuit (Two Days, One Night) (2014) (2014)	Rated 7/10 A very simple premise but a most affecting film. Set during an economic recession, a small company of 16 employees are given a vote to decide whether to keep their 'bonus' and not allow Sandra (Marion Cotillard) to return from sick leave to her old job or sacrifice their bonus to let her keep her job. Politics in a microcosm and with very direct results. Sandra visits her fellow employees one by one in an effort to save her job. The meetings are shot in real time and are in turns, moving, painful, uplifiting and awkward. It's a very low-key film but beautiful in it's own way. Dr Doom SUBS 29th Apr 2015		Cinema 80 Blocks From Tiffany's (1979) (1979)	Rated 7/10 An entertaining documentary looking at the gangs of 70s New York, mainly set around the South Bronx which at that time 'looked like post WW2 Dresden'. It's hard to imagine that this vision of a ruined and bankrupt New York is the same city as the post-Giuliani economically booming Metropolis we have today. The documentary was inspired by a 1977 article for Esquire magazine - 'Savage Skulls' by Jon Bradshaw which surely also inspired the cult classic The Warriors. I've only given this 7/10 as although I really enjoyed it, I really wish it had been a bit longer (67minutes) and gone into things a bit deeper but perhaps I'm nitpicking.
