Looks interesting... I haven't heard of this one before. I might give it a go. I note the late Peter Vaughan in the cast list too.

I spoilt it for myself by watching the US remake first - that's also very good, but having seen it, it took the mystery out of the original. I've not made the same mistake since!

Don't be put off by the fact this was made for TV - it's a superb film. Used to be readily available on DVD - I assume it still is. Recommended.

I thought it started really well and then just descended into poorly-written Hollywood nonsense - I switched it off before the end, which is very unusual!!

You know Henry, now you mention it I think I've seen the sequel, though I'm not sure... I didn't realise he was in Star Wars, though I had a feeling he'd gone on to do other things.

Surprised to see this is the first NZ film on the site! Used to have this on VHS years ago - cracking movie.

Shane MacGowan's role is only a brief cameo, and he's not officially credited, but he's definitely there! Of course the reason he appeared in this movie is because of his longstanding friendship with Johnny Depp.

The War Zone (1999) (1999)
I've just watched this today. It's a fine piece of work with four excellent performances from the main actors (especially Lara Belmont, making her film debut as Jessie), but viewing this relentlessly bleak film is a seriously harrowing experience in places. High quality film making, but this is a depressing (and indeed distressing) film - caution advised.

Features a brief appearance by a young Colin Farrell.

Watched it yesterday. Not my usual cup of tea but thought I'd give it a go. First half a bit dull, second half not bad. On the whole I enjoyed it, though I wouldn't rave about it .

Project Nim (2011) (2011)
Documentary about "Nim Chimpsky", a chimpanzee raised in a human lifestyle by hippie "scientists". This is a fascinating, surreal, disturbing and almost unbelievable documentary. It's also heartbreaking - I must confess, I may have shed a little tear or two in places. Nim is (naturally) utterly adorable, but his story is ultimately more tragedy than comedy. Highly recommended.

This has got 7.3 on IMDB, which surprises me, because I wasted a couple of hours of my life watching this in the cinema and found it really quite disappointing. A shame, as the premise is a good one, but it's just a little silly really, as I recall.

I really wanted this to be rubbish, because it seemed like sacrilege to attempt to remake such a classic movie. But it isn't rubbish - it's fantastic, and I was happy to be wrong!

One of the comments on one of the YouTube clips from this says there has never been a UK DVD release of this film - that's not true, as I bought it on DVD, albeit it was a budget release (I lent it out to someone many moons ago though and never got it back).

The alternative title "Nightmare" was used in the USA I believe.

Before Dawn (2013) (2013)
Low budget independent zombie flick directed by, and starring, Dominic Brunt - also known as Emmerdale's hapless vet Paddy Kirk.

This has pretty atrocious reviews on IMDB and suchlike, yet I think some of the reviews are a little harsh, to be honest. The movie needs to be looked at in context - it's a very low budget indie film put together by a first time director - were it not for the fact he happens to be a well-known TV actor (and zombie film fanboy) this movie probably wouldn't have attracted so much (relative) attention in the first place.

Sure the acting is questionable, and the script isn't the stuff of awards either, but I personally enjoyed watching the film - I like the fact that you hardly see any zombies and that you never really know how many there are. I also liked the fact that the zombies you DO see are crazed maniacs - none of the slow, lumbering Walking Dead types here...

I saw it on the Horror Channel - I dare say they'll show it again at some point - give it a go, it's really not that bad...
