LaurenceD SUBS 19th Dec 2020		Classical Item BBC Symphony Orchestra, Lionel Friend - Havergal Brian: Symphony No.3 (1989)	The tracks listed as [untitled] refer not to movements, but to index markers in the liner notes, e.g. "... from the long opening bass clarinet theme [18] through episodes magically remote ...". The only CD I have so far that separates tracks in this fashion.
LaurenceD SUBS 3rd Dec 2020		Classical Item American Recording Society Orchestra, Dean Dixon - Walter Piston: Symphony #2 (1951)	This recording actually features the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and was recorded at the Vienna Konzerthaus in 1951. The pseudonym for the orchestra was likely used because of contractual reasons. Dean Dixon was a black conductor in America and struggled with prejudice in the 1940s, which is probably the main reason that he (and his wife, pianist Vivian Rivkin) relocated to Europe in 1949. LaurenceD SUBS 18th Aug 2020		Classical Item Berliner Philharmoniker, Riccardo Mutti - Bruckner: Symphony No. 4 (1986)	Bruckner revised this symphony several times between 1874 and 1888. Based on the included notes and the movement descriptions, I believe that this is a performance of the so-called 1878-1880 edition from Leopold Nowak.

This item was in print for a number of years and there are versions with varying covers and labels, but all with the same cat#. My cover has the date 7/61 on the back lower right.

LaurenceD SUBS 14th Jun 2020		Classical Item Wind Soloists Of The Chamber Orchestra Of Europe - Beethoven: Music For Wind Instruments (1986)	All 4 works in this collection were composed in the 1790s; some were published well after the fact, hence the misleading opus numbers. Some additional details: - the quintet is catalogued as WoO 208, also referenced as Hess 19; it exists in fragmentary form, the version performed here being a reconstruction by Leopold Alexander Zellner from 1862. - the rondino is catalogued as WoO 25.

LaurenceD SUBS 8th Apr 2020		Classical Item Philadelphia Orchestra, Eugene Ormandy - Dello Joio: Suite ("Air Power") (1959)	The TV series premiered on November 11, 1956. The mono LP (ML 5214) was released in late 1957, while the stereo LP was not released until 1959. Stereo copies are somewhat harder to acquire; I would think that interest in the series would have waned over time, which may account for that.

I will add the new number in the alt field, although I don't know what was going on with Capitol's prefix assignments during that time.
LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Dec 2018		Classical Item London Symphony Orchestra, Colin Davis - Stravinsky: Orpheus (1967)	There is a mistake on the labels (with my copy at least): side 1 lists the symphony and side 2 lists Orpheus. The listing on the cover correctly indicates what the two sides actually play.

In any case I think that VoxBox2 and VoxBox3 should be assigned to the same label as this one. Also - I have entered tracks 1/2 and 2/6 as-is, with the apparent typographical errors.

LaurenceD SUBS 17th Jul 2018		Classical Item Kipnis, Blegen, Luxon, Meints - The Anna Magdalena Bach Notebook (1984)	I have reproduced the track titles as shown in the insert/booklet, i.e. each track preceded by its page number in the Anna Magdalena notebook. I have also included composer names, some definite, some speculative (?). I do enjoy the presentation and performances, the only drawback being that the original notes from the LP release were reproduced as-is, reduced in size for the CD insert. As a result a magnifying glass is required to read them.
