Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Karel Ancerl - Smetana: Má Vlast (2005)
in front insert booklet & on back insert, but not on the disc, "má vlast" is translated, "my country", and subtitled, "cyklus symfonickych básní", "a cycle of symphonic poems", and the composer's life's dates given, "(1824-1884)".
in the "prague spring" of 1968, sincere communist & socialist politicians including dubcek inaugurated and attempted to establish a democratic socialist government for their country, and there was a flowering of the arts, as well as of freedom of expression & democratic co-operation in the then czechoslovakian people's republic. (it was all too brief, being decades before mikhail gorbachev's perestroika reforms in the soviet union: and the prague spring was crushed by the combination of soviet union & some other warsaw pact countries' armies.)

"huzzah!" ( i think that's a 45cat permitted ejaculation) - "SECTIONBREAK" works!

(amn't sure when &/or whether to use a "sir", "dame" & similar, especially when the packaging, notes& labels're inconsistent: won't including 'em upset searches?)

25/6/15: *sulk* who stole my "sectionbreak"s & "side"s "1" & "2" ?

doormanperdomo: eeeek!

ok; is there aught so simple to the arcane knowledge of how to set a word, letter or phrase in the title in italics? (the usenet tradition is/was to start italics with a "_" and close them with a second "_" - but neither this, nor the "normal" 45cat "...italics..." works. (does anything?)

back insert numbers listed tracks 1-6 and then 6-9; i'm not convinced this is of any great significance.
the obverse of the disc gives "die verkaufte braut" & "u.a." precedence over "the bartered bride" & "and others", and the composer's name only as "b. smetana" - again, of dubious distinction. sold new by the "booksale" remainder chain @ 99p.

- i hadn't even heard of (gerald) finzi, when i saw this - whyever not?

- is it just there's so little (relatively) by him, or is (fairly) modern work for the clarinet looked down on?

- anyway, "well done, naxos & the northern sinfonia for playing, recording & releasing this one. well done, indeed."

Various Artists - Mussorgsky: Bilder Einer Ausstellung U.a. / Pictures At An Exhibition
double cd, but classicalcat has no such on drop-down menu.

the first 15 tracks are actually by carlo maria giulini and chicago symphony orchestra;
track 16 is by kurt sanderling and staatskapelle dresden;
track 17 is by arthur fiedler and boston pops orchestra, as is disc2 track 1;
disc2 track 2 is by seiji ozawa and san francisco symphony orchestra;
track 3 by herbert von karajan and berliner philharmoniker;
track 4 by mstislav rostropovich and berliner philharmoniker.

after the third time of trying, i gave up giving the separate artist credits for each track - this one item has taken between 2~3 hours to enter into classicalcat.

the tempi descriptions, etc. in parentheses are mine, extracted from the edited liner-notes: the tracks into which they are separated on the cds would otherwise have nothing to distinguish them. you may prefer to substitute the ordinal numbers of each movement in the concerti.

actually a double cd in a normal twin-cd jewel case, but "double cd" doesn't seem to be a classicalcat drop-down option.

alexander gibson (on printed inserts) is sir alexander gibson on the discs, though he conducts, and the scottish national orchestra plays, only upon the first disc, in the fourth symphony.

the individual discs also have long nos, though not separate bar-codes: 7243 5 68973 2 8 & 68974 2 7.

Daniel Barenboim And English Chamber Orchestra - Mozart: Symphony No.40 In G Minor, K.550, Symphony No.41 In C Major, K.551 "jupiter" (1988)
looks as though it/the pairing spent some time on the music for pleasure or classics for pleasure label - perhaps both - until the latter was closed down by emi, and (some of) its catalogue reissued more expensively on hmv/emi's "proper" classical labels.

(mfp was originally a collaboration set up by paul hamlyn, he of the incredibly cheaply-produced-but-brightly-colour-covered cookbooks fame, digging his way through hmv/emi historical, ignored (and frequently mono) recordings (and anything else he could lay his hands on cheaply enough). it launched into releasing original recordings of the classical cornucopia by established orchestras, with the costs covered by cigarette company sponsorship - which recordings are not to be sneezed at - and continued this so successfully that the gramophone record company/emi manglement, who'd by then bought out paul hamlyn's 50% share of mfp, felt these were cutting into its mid-price, as well as its full-price classical labels' sales...

The English Concert, Trevor Pinnock - Joseph Haydn: Missa In Angustiis In D Minor "Nelson Mass", Te Deum In C Major (1987)
woops - and the opening phrases of the sections the words of the "te deum" are separated into, likewise.
(the divisions are elaborated upon inside the 32pp booklet, but not in the track-listing on its back cover, nor in that upon the back insert of the package, neither of which mention the "benedictus" - and not even the division into tracks is mentioned on the disc, itself.)

the membership of the english concert choir, grouped by their voices, and that of the english concert, and their period-authentic instruments, is given also, plus 3pp liner-notes in english on the mass and the the deum by edward olleson, translated into german by horst leuchmann, into french by alain jomy, into italian by paolo petazzi, 5pp full-page b+w illos including photo I of paintings & engravings including of horatio nelson, our hero (but not of emma, lady hamilton), and 10pp of the latin texts of mass & the deum plus translations into german, english & french effectively complete the booklet.

Mariko Honda, Keith Clark And Slovak Philharmonic, Peter Michalica, Richard Zimmer And Philharmonia Cassovia - Tchaikovsky • Dvorák: Violin Concertos (1992)
there is no certain indication on disc or package inserts which of each of the names coupled with the orchestras and the concertos' composers is the soloist, and which, the conductor: they may be correctly listed above, or they may both be reversed: i must look all four up and check which are the violinists and which, therefore, most likely the maestros. "maestri" ?

the first and second movements of the dvorák are listed as given (& vice-versa), as both being upon track 4 of the cd.

a lot of naxos label cds bear performances © hnh international ltd: but n.b. i do not know whether there is (or was) any connexion between lydian and the naxos label, music co. or people.

Various Artists - Britten: Four Sea Interludes (2008)
the pieces whose composer credits read "rossini, orchestrated benjamin britten" (the soirées musicales & matinées musicales) are pieces created and orchestrated by britten from themes and fragments taken from pieces composed by rossini, rather than whole rossini compositions, songs or movements, etc. orchestrated by britten. i'm not sure how to indicate this in 45worlds-composer-credit-ish.

(i'm guessing that the original lp had the tchaikovsky divided onto two tracks just so, and the mendelssohn occupying side two uninterrupted, so the music on the cassette was automatically presented in the same way on the cassette. bicbw...)

on lps and cds it's more usual to list the separate movements of e.g. a concerto or a symphony as individual tracks: the movements of the tone poems are not so-listed on this cassette nor on (or in) its card insert (nor the stapled-in paper booklet).
