Magic Marmalade 7th Feb 2016 | | DVD Box SetThe Omen Trilogy - 20th Century Fox (2001) | Checked these Discs through on a Large screen (40" - With Up-scaling DVD Player), and they look great.... really impressive quality.
(Scanning this bloomin' thing was fun let me tell you... working out how to scan each panel as I unfolded it!)

Magic Marmalade 15th Jan 2016 | | DVDThe Exorcist - Warner Home Video (1999) | Ah, here you go... a back cover detail with legible text.
(Good old Microsoft Image Gallery, allows you to revert to original scan, even after you've edited it).

(Speaking of which, doesn't Amy Adams (Man of Steel, The Fighter) look a lot like Elizabeth Montgomery?!)

Magic Marmalade 4th Dec 2015 | | DVDPleasantville - Entertainment In Video (1999) | This is another stonker from the nineties, with a great idea behind it... and probably one of the highlights of the careers of anyone involved in it.
(Never show it on tv though!)

Magic Marmalade 11th Nov 2015 | | DVDMad Max - Warner Home Video (2001) | Indeed Greg, it seems they are most often referred to as: "Snapper Cases"
In fact, it occurs to me that these are prime candidates for the kind of thing that might be the object of someone's collection habit... as they look good together on a shelf, are probably getting quite scarce, and the card cases probably not surviving in any kind of great condition now for the most part... like a pre-cursor to the digipak, they were the initial packaging for the first run of established classics on DVD.
But at the moment, it seems not.

Magic Marmalade 22nd Sep 2015 | | DVDMetropolis - Eureka! (1999) | I found this in a charity shop earlier this year... one that I'd always meant to get around to watching, so was very pleased to find it.
Absolutely right Greg... ahead of it's time, and yet timeless themes.
It makes you smile when you begin to watch it because of the old silent movie vibe, but petty soon makes any modern audience shift uncomfortably in their seats, as it's almost prophetic, and polemic (Ooh, get me and the words today!).
It's a difficult one to buy though... not because it's hard to find a copy on DVD or Blu-Ray especially, but because there are apparently many versions to chose from.
This is because, this being as old as it is (and as long!) was missing a lot of bits for many years, with some of those pieces considered lost for a while, and the print quality etc. on some releases were un-restored and the like... not to mention a more recent release with a brand new soundtrack by Giorgio Moroder (!).
This is a more complete version, and with a straight silent movie-era organ type score, and the picture is a largely un-restored, but OK-ish (They've kept the black and white graininess you're probably familiar with from other films of the era) - there are others with a more lately added brownish- sepia colourisation I believe.
This DVD is a little more scarce than others, and seems quite a popular one, and so tends to go for a little more sometimes, but not overly so (£10-£15, occasionally £20).
But any version of the film is worth a watch, even if silent movies aren't your thing, or sci-fi for that matter, as it is more social and technological philosophy than anything else (heavy socialist stream running through - robots, workers etc.)

Magic Marmalade 10th Sep 2015 | | DVDDune - Castle Home Video (1999) | I never understood Hollywood thinking in this respect, as a film of this genre, and subject matter will mostly appeal to people who want the whole thing, and are willing to sit for extended periods of time watching it...
... but they want it to appeal to the general masses, who only want a light show for an hour, so they cut it to ribbons, and it appeals to nobody.
And, as more recently, Christopher Nolan films have proved, if you let the filmmaker make the film for the audience he (or she) intends, and tailors it accordingly, others will be willing to give it a go.
(After all, they don't mind showing Ben Hur or Cleopatra every other bank holiday!).

Magic Marmalade 6th Jun 2015 | | VCDStar Trek: Generations - Philips Interactive Media International (1995) | I think so... Paramount is the studio, but Philips is prevalent on the back, the label and spines, so that seems to be the publisher (As well as manufacturer). I don't think the rest of the philips name is necessary.

Magic Marmalade 4th Jun 2015 | | DVD Box SetBlack Adder: Remastered - BBC (2009) | I've been meaning to fish out my old DVD box set (the yellow box), as I'm interested toknow if this edition is widescreen adapted or not (Fairly sure mine is the standard 4:3 - but will check).
|
Magic Marmalade 2nd Jun 2015 | | DVDJudge Dredd - Pathé | The newest one is much more like it... with Carl Urban in the role.
(Of course, they essentially lifted the plot from "The Raid", but has a lot of it's own going for it).
This one is poo :)

Magic Marmalade 1st Jun 2015 | | DVDHighlander - Studio Canal (2000) | Not good, but I believe it built quite a following in it's own right... just not for me.
I think you have a different disc to me too monolith, I don't think mine has a picture... I'll have to dig it out and have a look later.
(Guess what I'm watching this evening then!).

Magic Marmalade 1st Jun 2015 | | DVDGladiator - Universal (2000) | This would have been good if it was named: Gladioli, and starred Morrisey in the lead:
