Comment by Caren.: Zuerst spielten als pünktliche Vorgruppe die in Frankfurt ansässigen PEOPLES TEMPER, die seinerzeit vor einigen Jahren aus der Band FREEZEEBEE hervorgingen. Mit viel Elan und guter Laune wird so ein heimatlicher Gig doch immer gut bejubelt, es gab ein leuchtendes Logo, das an beide Seiten des Schlagzeugs angelehnt werden konnte (mal was anderes als das obligatorische Banner oder die bemalte Bassdrum), die 3 spielten ohne Bassisten härteren Mainstream Rock mit guten Gesangsmelodien, die auch mal etwas derber wurden, wenn der Leadgitarrist einen Song anstimmte. Insgesamt gut abgeliefert, da gab’s gar nichts zu meckern.
Zur Einstimmung auf die Hauptband gab es dann einen ungewöhnlichen „very funky Hip Hop“ Introsong: „We need some money“ von Chuck Brown aus den 80ern, an dessen Titel man bereits den Humor der Band erkennen kann. Nur wenige konnten sich das Grinsen, Grooven und Mitsingen verkneifen.
Im Publikum war erst noch etwas Luft, nun sah man aber das „passende“ Publikum einwandern, die Kostümierung des Tages hieß Vollbart, Hornbrille & Bassball-Cap ODER Vollbart, lange Haare & Karohemd – für die, die CLUTCH noch aus ihrer Phase der 90er Jahre kannten als sie noch in die Schublade Grunge/Stoner-Rock passten. Ihre letzte Scheibe „Earth Rocker“ allerdings stieg letztes Jahr wie ein Phoenix aus der Asche in den Heavy-Powerrock-Olymp, Verweise auf MONSTER MAGNET oder DANKO JONES wurden wach und für manche wurde CLUTCH sicherlich als „Neuentdeckung des Jahres“ gefeiert. Massenweise Lobhudeleien, die durchaus gerechtfertigt waren, unterstützten das schon 1 weiteres Jahr vorher eingeleitete Comeback der Band als Live-Vorgruppe bei VOLBEAT in der Jahrhunderthalle, womit sie durchweg positives Feedback einheimsen konnten. Die klassische 4-er Konstellation (2 davon mit Vollbart, aber ohne was zu lesen auf den Shirts) konnte zwischenzeitlich auch schon für den „Sons Of Anarchy“ Soundtrack ein paar Lieder beisteuern. Das Live-Programm jetzt bestand aus diversen Jahrzehnten ihres Schaffens. Gleich das 2. Lied „Crucial velocity“ kam von der neuen bekanntesten Scheibe und machte ordentlich Druck im Publikum, auch wenn die Stimme live nicht ganz so bedrohlich klang, es ging der Punk ab! Massenpogo und extrem einheitliches Hüpfen (sehr hoch!) erstaunte mich doch etwas. Dementsprechend dann auch der Kommentar des Sängers Neil Fallon: „Man, who are all these people? It’s weiiird! I like it!!“ ☺ Und so ging es auch weiter, Crowddiver blieben erstaunlich lange in der Luft und durften durch den halben Saal segeln, manche wurden sogar zwischenzeitlich auf den Händen der Masse kurz hochgelupft. Leute, die bei anderen auf den Schultern saßen waren keine zierlichen Mädchen, sondern durchaus Kerle in Motörhead-Kutten; es könnte daran gelegen haben, dass dieses Publikum zu 75% aus Männern bestand und damit die muskulöse Hubkraft tendentiell etwas höher lag als sonst. Zwischendurch gab es aber auch mal kurz leisere Töne mit Country-Würze, Akustikklampfe, der Halbakustischen und ner Mundharmonika (es gab ein „Thank you Germany - for the invention of the harmonica“!), die eher wüstentrocken daherkamen und die Bluesrock-Elemente der Band unterstrichen. Die zwischenzeitlich entstandenen Graswolken im Saal hielten sich laaaaange. Insgesamt sah man aber definitiv immer mehr Haare schwingen, der Gitarrensound war zumeist im Stonerrock angesiedelt (viel Wah-Wah), mal kippte das Ganze ins groovige und erinnerte eher an funky Crossover der 90er. Der fast letzte Gig in Deutschland kam auch bei der Band extrem gut an, wir mussten alle für ein Erinnerungs-Foto posieren und eine Rockpalast-Aufzeichnung folgt noch. Heimlicher Hit für mich wurde „The Face“, natürlich wurde auch mehrfach nach dem Titeltrack „Earth Rocker“ verlangt, der dann in die Zugabe verlegt wurde. Etwas mehr als eineinhalb Stunden Spielzeit waren voll ok, der T-Shirt Stand wurde ziemlich geplündert (bei unschlagbaren Preisen von 10 Euro für ein Ladies-Shirt war das auch ein nettes Angebot). Hat sich gelohnt. Da konnte man an diesem Feiertag auch ein Bier mehr trinken... „Uncounted Les Pauls are sainted to the sky, here there was darkness, now only light.“

Comment by Caren.: „Don’t argue, communicate!“ Ein Leitsatz, der für den Ex-Frontmann der DEAD KENNEDYS immer schon wichtig war. Lieber reden und erklären, anstatt beharren und bekämpfen. Die Bühne bietet immer wieder eine gute Plattform. Politik, Religion und Finanzwelt sind mal wieder ein großes Thema, zudem hat er sich den Spruch „Nazi Trumps – fuck off“ auf den Leib geschrieben. Gibt’s auch als Shirt zu kaufen, natürlich, und ansonsten nennt er ihn gern mal Trumpenstein. JELLO kaspert, leidet, macht Grimassen, gestikuliert dramatisch wie beim Theater und hat 3 verschiedene Oberteile an, die er in Zwiebelmanier ablegen kann (roter Königsmantel, Glitzerbluse, Trumpshirt). 5 Leute auf der Bühne, alles fitte Musiker, da gibt’s nix zu meckern, das macht Spaß. Selbst ganz vorne war’s angenehm, dank rücksichtsvollem Pogomoshpit, die Kapp war ohnehin nicht zu extrem gestopft voll, aber die üblichen Verdächtigen waren natürlich versammelt. Inclusive der beiden Bilderbuch-Punks vor mir in der 1. Reihe, original mit grünem Iroansatz, Kutte und „Schleimkeim“-Aufnäher, mit Sicherheitsnadeln befestigt. Ziemlich am Anfang schon wurde (zu Ehren von Trump) das LARD Cover „Forkboy“ abgefeiert und ein paar andere DEAD KENNEDYS Klassiker werden ebenfalls eingestreut, zB „California über alles“, „Nazi Punks fuck off“ (gern wird das Mikro beim Refrain ins Publikum weitergereicht) oder die Zugaben „Holiday in Cambodia“ und „Riot“. Die SCHOOL OF MEDICINE musste sogar 2x wieder rauskommen zwecks Zugaben. Beim letzten Applaus wird dann noch das 20-minütige „Full Metal Jackoff“ gefordert, aber das wäre dann doch etwas zuviel gewesen, man kam auch so schon auf fast 2 Stunden Vollgas ☺ Good boy.
Die ortsansässigen PEOPLES TEMPER haben es pünktlich gegen 20:00 noch etwas schwerer, die Massen in Schwung zu bekommen, obwohl sie sich wirklich Mühe geben. Sehr sympatische Jungs, vor allem der Gitarrist & der Schlagzeuger unterhalten das Publikum mit Lachern, Quatschkram, Turnereien auf der Box, Mitgröl-Aktionen oder man „lässt“ Gitarre spielen und trinkt alkohooooolfreies *hust* Bier (während sich JELLO heimlich im Hintergrund schon mal warm tanzt). Ich fand das Set wirklich erfrischend schnell und rockig, besser als sonst und der Abschluss „When the sun goes down“ ist richtig klasse. Das Lied mag ich sehr, würde eine gute Single abgeben. Gekauft, Jungs!
Warum allerdings der Tonmann in der Halle unbedingt 2x hintereinander die best-of-Lou-Reed spielen muss (und beim rausgehen fing sie NOCHmal an *g*), bleibt mir ein Rätsel. Ein schöner Abend, trotzdem ☺
