Comment by chrisb: Confusingly, the Windsong CD credits says this gig was on 15th February 1973, but in 1973 Stackridge only featured in one Radio 1 In Concert according to this listing and that was broadcast on 3rd February 1973 (and therefore recorded before that date), and was Stackridge supported by Bruce Cockburn, compered by Bob Harris. The sources for the two gigs dates appear to be at odds with each other.

Comment by chrisb: This listing of the BBC Radio 1 In Concert archive gives a Stackridge concert (supported by Alexis and introduced by Andy Dunkley) broadcast on 24th JUNE 1972. This could make sense if this gig was recorded on 21st June and not 21st July. From the listing, no other Stackridge In Concert was broadcast in 1972. The 21 JULY date for this entry is from the Windsong CD credits. Maybe they got the month wrong?

Comment by chrisb: Temporary drummer, Tony Bird, with the band for at least this gig as a replacement for Billy Bent/Sparkle, whose 21st birthday it was today, but he was still hospitalised (see details below):
Western Daily Press, Thursday July 29, 1971:
"Billy Bent, Stackridge's drummer, will spend his 21st birthday today in an isolation ward in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, where he was taken with a mystery bug last Friday, during Stackridge's current tour. The band has had to cancel a number of bookings. Billy should be out of hospital on Monday. Meanwhile Jason Lick drummer Tony Bird will be sitting in for him."

Comment by chrisb: A recollection of this gig recently posted by Andrew Cresswell Davis in a Stackridge Facebook group:
“I remember this one very well.
The town hall had a sliding screen on tracks the divided the hall in two. This screen was vast and stretched from floor to ceiling and across the entire width of the hall. It was also rather ancient and covered with glazed panels - windows to you and me. The bar was situated on one side of the screen and the auditorium and stage on the other.
We’d finished our set and I was sitting in this bar with various members of Stackridge chatting quietly and enjoying a beer or two. Through the glass partition we saw Ozzie and the band take the stage. A few seconds later as Sabbath started their first number the screen started violently shaking and vibrating from top to bottom and from side to side. I struggle to describe the noise it made - it sounded, as Crun would often remark ‘like a gorilla in a harpsichord factory.’
All conversation on our side of the screen abruptly stopped until they finished their first song and relative silence returned. That lasted very briefly until they started song number two when the excruciating din started again. After maybe 15 mins of this I’d had enough and went out to watch the band - they sounded much better from the other side!
Those were - I think we can all agree - the days.”

Comment by chrisb: Oops the ticket printer got the incorrect day of the week but correct date! Another one of those gigs where Stackridge tried adding The Korgis to the bill too (see ticket) to see if it might boost sales.
