As per 12" and 7" worlds can The Electric Light Orchestra, Electric Light Orchestra and ELO be linked as the same band so we don't end up with three separate discographies please.

If I do search ELO, that’s all I get, ELO. I thought that “The Electric Light Orchestra, Electric Light Orchestra, ELO” would come up under one Artist, no matter which one you did a search on?.
Only 1 of the artist name variations should include the whole discography. In the case "Electric Light Orchestra" has been chosen. The variations such as ELO and The Electric Light Orchestra should have a link to Electric Light Orchestra, which contains the complete discography.

Thanks for that, makes sense.
Whilst you are on a roll JJ, can you sort out the Electric Light Orchestra “SHSM 2015”
mine is Harvest Heritage as on the cover but not label, “An6y66” is on Harvest going by the label, I think they are all from Harvest Heritage, and should be put together along with “An6y66” images that have a different rim text. Unless you think different.

Oops, I think I buggered up Olivia Newton-John (oo-er) the other day then... I'll fix it at some point.

Over on 45cat each name variation shows the entire discography though. Which is handy as different countries list the same record under different name variations

That's actually been done wrong and needs to be fixed!
If it's possible for any of the three permutations to return the full discography, then that would be the best way, wouldn't it? I can't see why anyone would just want a list of "ELO" releases - in fact, it might mislead them into thnking that's all there is on the site.
I could understand if there was something different about ELO and Electric Light Orchestra (in the same way that, say, Wings are distinct from Paul McCartney), but they are one and the same - just different ways of writing it.

I agree when I look up their records on this site I expect them all to be under the same list. Currentky if someone search's elo only about three records show up. Because the rest are under electric light orchestra.
Also the name changes on the same release. If you look at the america pn face the music album the sleeve and inner sleeves all say electric light orchestra whilst the labels say the electric light orchestra. The band were using elo as shorthand for the name right from the start; The second album was called ELO2 by the electric light orchestra and The ELO ep is still credited to electric light orchestra.

The full discography WILL appear, under one of the band names (I think we are/were going with Electric Light Orchestra as the primary name), it's just the other variations that will link back to the master name rather than having everything listed.
So the full discog (as it stands) will always be available, yes, but you'll have to click into the primary artist name to get it. The same system exists many times over for other artists and does work quite well.
(Though I made a pig's ear of one the other day, which I still need to fix).
I get that, but I don't see the purpose of the "ELO" list. If it's possible for an "ELO" search to return everything too, wouldn't that be better than filtering the results?

In some ways, yes. But if we cross-link all the pseudonyms then everytime another one pops up we have to edit EVERY name variation to make them all link again, otherwise you end up with full discogs on some variants, and bits missing on others. It's been tried and it does cause issues (not just this one, but this is the main one I think).

Just to clarify, once it's all sorted, the "ELO" discography would have a link at the top saying "See Electric Light Orchestra for main discography" (or words to that effect) and it should, in theory, be straightforward to follow the logic.
